Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kids, I have a stock 2003 996 with very limited options. The car has white (aluminum) gauges and aluminum door sills. Nothing else optioned at all... Are these stock, dealer add on or owner add on? How do I tell? Thanks in advance. JKC

POST 2Original post

The white gauges are probably add-on. The carrera sills should be listed on the option codes if they were added at ther factory... you'll see the 09991 option code (exclusive program) and the sills were X70 ... if you go here... http://registry.rennlist.com/optioncode/optioncode.asp or here... http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options.asp you can check all of your option codes.

POST 3Original post

Check if you have a sticker on the underside of the hood. The options codes will be printed on it (as it left the factory, so not listing options added later)

POST 4Original post

If the sticker is not there or not readable, you can call Porsche North America and they will give you the codes from your VIN. Results from the option decoders can be a bit confusing and several of the codes are not really options, but you can figure out what options really are on the car.

POST 5Original post

If you have the original manuals for the car, there should also be a sticker on the inside front cover of one of the manuals. Post all of the options codes here and we'll see if we can help you identify them.

POST 6Original post

speaking of door sills------------- where can i get aluminum door sills in place of the std. black ones?

POST 7Original post

Call Sunset Imports (Porsche) in Oregon Sales: [phone removed] or Brandywine Porsche in PA. Sales: [phone removed].

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Guys. Incidentally, I did a Google Search and the option page is down... Here are mine. The Sticker has the Vin #, Next Line Reads: 996 110. Next Line Reads: M9603-663 G9601-10. Next Line Reads: LO41 AF. Next Lines are in paragraph format (which is what I suspect to be option codes. The first line of that is: CO2, X54, X70, X71, 288. The next line is: 342, 437, 438, 446, 537. The next line is: 601, 680, 936, 983. And the last line is: 09991. Appreciate any help. By the way, as a joke I was going to find all these super rare and desirable options and really outfit the thing as a twin turbo, but since you folks are being helpful, I figured I'd better not be a smart ***. JKC

POST 9Original post

JKC - Here is what I have been able to find. Obviously, you have a few more options than you "thought" you had as indicated in your initial post on this thread. CO2 - Equipped with catalytic converter X54 - Stainless steel exhaust pipes X70 Door sills in steel with model insignia X71 - Aluminum Painted Instrument dials 288 - Headlight washer 342 - ??? 437 - Full power seat left 438 - Full power seat right 446 - Wheel Caps with colored Porsche crest 18-inch wheels only 537 - Left seat with positrol and lumbar 601 - Litronic Headlights (non turbo) 680 - Digital Sound Package 936 - Leather seats rear 983 - Leather seats front and rear 09991 Not sure what this is. This code seems to be on all option code lists. It could be an end of list code from the Options software program. Maybe someone else knows what codes 342 and 0991 represent.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. What is the benefit of stainless steel pipes (other than corrosion)? Also, unless there is some hidden mechanism, I do not see the headlight washers... (not that I'd ever use them) but the front end looks pretty clean and I don't see any nozzles. Many thanks for the information. I'll have to go fiddle with the lumbar support I never knew I had! JKC

POST 11Original post

JKC - The SS pipes are a different design (I think Trubo type pipes) and they do resist corrosion better. The headlight washers are part of the head light assembly and are hidden are under the silver oval shown in the pic below.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, again. Yep, I have headlight washers too! Yippee. I was thinking those were just the Fenoitner Valves. I'll dig around on the exhaust issue. JKC

POST 13Original post

I am guessing your exhaust pipes probably look like this? I have many of the same options on my '04 C2 as you have on your car.

POST 14Original post

did they just told the washer is the most useless option? enjoy your car!

POST 15Original post

I noticed when decoding mine that some codes have an additional preceding character. Here's what I found for 342: M342: SEAT HEATING SYSTEM, LEFT/RIGHT SEAT

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, I have the seat heaters. Tim K., that is what my tail pipes look like as well. Sounds like our cars are similar. Thanks, again for the information. JKC

POST 17Original post

JKC - it is customery for newbies to post pics of their P-car. We love pics!
