Not the filling-jarring suspension that I had in my 993 (my wife's kidneys thanked me for getting the 996), but something a little stiffer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If my cars had a strut brace, they usually already came with a modified suspension (new shocks, springs as well). I don't want to go crazy, but want to improve the handling so that it's more to what I was accustomed. Will there be a noticable difference by adding a strut brace, before doing the srpings, etc.? No matter what I do, it's got to be a cost-effective solution. The crampons are dug in tight on the slippery slope. Not looking for any top shelf solutions. I had installed Eichbachs on my Boxster, with noted imporvement, but no strut brace. Thought I might try the opposite for a quick hit. Springs would be in the SPring . The tires get replaced after I scrub the last couple thousand usable miles off these decrepit Rosso's.

POST 2Original post

The 996 already has a front strut bar, it's hidden behind all the plastic, no need for any aftermarket strut bar in a 996. FWIW the cup cars use the exact same bar.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, there's a new piece of info. THere's sure enough of the standard bolt-in types for the 996 for sale! thanks,

POST 4Original post

only the older cars needed is.. 996s have 'em from the factor under the side covers. Cup cars do run them still but we're not cup cars

POST 5Original post

I buck the trend on this one... even the 996 mk II cars which are a lot stiffer can benefit from a strut brace IF the car is set up for real racing. I am talking about Hoosiers or slicks in larger sizes, GT3/Cup sway bars and springs in the 1000# range. The cup cars have the roll cage to stiffen them and it links to the front firewall adding a lot of torsional stiffness. I added a front strut brace to my car and was quite suprised at hoe much less wheel lift (resulting from chassis flex) I got. It has convinced me to pull my bolt in 6 point cage out and weld in a full cup car cage.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ed, by the looks of your avatar, I don't think you have to argue your point too much! Nice looking setup. Do the early Boxsters have one as well? I know someone that swears by the one that he added. As Alex's comment pointed out, my experience is based on all the older cars. I guess I definitely need to upgrade the suspension. Not the filling-jarring suspension that I had in my 993 (my wife's kidneys thanked me for getting the 996), but something a little stiffer. Tires first, though. I can't believe how badly those Rosso's wear.

POST 7Original post

Bill I hear you on the Pirellis.. I can't stand those darned tires anyways. Try PS2s next. They last a while longer. On the suspension, if you can swing it, I'd go with PSS9s on a cab. It'll still feel streetworthy as well.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex. I understand that PSS9 is very pricey, but highly regarded on most p-cars. Is there a reasonable "middle tier" option that you can recommend? It doesn't sound like just getting the Eibach or H&R's is a good solution. thanks!

POST 9Original post

Heya Pchak, the PSS9s are around 2300-2400 usually but you can get a set of M030s for 1K or so. There isn't very much "in between" sadly. I'm not overly keen on the M030s since it makes a "smigen" of difference in my book. But whatever you do... don't just do the springs. Match the shocks to the springs if possible...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I gathered that matching is important, from another post as well. That's why I was looking for a few small improvements before a major upgrade. thanks again!
