The reverse lights are out on this car -- as well as 2 others that I inspected of this year with similar mileage.

If both lights are out I would check reversing light switch, would be on the gearbox, also fuses.

I think...you have to put the gear in reverse while you're setting the memory position in order for that feature to work.

I didn't like that reverse mirror tilt feature, so I just set my memory without it.

Do bear in mind that to enable it, you need to engage reverse while setting the seat memory (at least for MY02+, and I assume for 99-01 as well)

I bought a 1999 996 with 50,000 miles. The reverse lights are out on this car -- as well as 2 others that I inspected of this year with similar mileage. Can anyone recommend how I trouble shoot this to locate the problem?

When reading this post, I see that somoeone had mentioned they fixed the right side mirror going down in reverse on their '99. I thought this was only on later models? Is this something that 99's had to and I need to fix since mine doesnt do that?

The switch on my 99 went out a year or two ago. Easy inexpensive repair. Hardest part is jacking the car up to get to the transmission. Shouldn't be a big deal. Kris

This is on ly on the car if you have the full power seats with the 3 programmable memory positions. It came with that package...if you dont have the 3 memory buttons next to the seats or dont have full power seats, then you dont have that option.

I do have that option ....hmmm wonder why mine doesnt work. You think it is conneted to the reverse lights (which dont work)?

If the reverse switch is gone, that would explain it. Do bear in mind that to enable it, you need to engage reverse while setting the seat memory (at least for MY02+, and I assume for 99-01 as well)

cohare, I think...you have to put the gear in reverse while you're setting the memory position in order for that feature to work. I didn't like that reverse mirror tilt feature, so I just set my memory without it. Read the manual, I'm just recalling from what I read some time back.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
