I got lousy results when I filled a chip with metallic paint (10-15 very thin layers).

You just paint and dry until you get a raised area of dry paint, then use the solution that literally dissolves away the blob with a padded plastic insturment (like a credit card covered with soft cotton cloth) until the repaired area is flush with the finished surface.

I use Eric's method of paint and sandpaper but for the novice the chemical peel is probably a little easier to handle...emotionally.

I got great results when I used a single layer of metallic touch up and then filled the chip with clear, using Langka on the resulting clear blob.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got a couple of tiny paint chips (rocks?) and have seen that a toothpick is a good instrument to fill fill them. I've got the paint bottle and the clearcoat, but will this look terrible? The chips are very, very, small. TIA.

POST 2Original post

I've seen it described here: http://www.carcareonline.com/viewarticle.aspx?art=8 I went out and got the "pen" and it covered well enough for the time being. http://www.autovisuals.com/webcartne...=AutoSharp+Pen

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. I may be a 'pen' kind of guy after reading the other post!

POST 4Original post

I just ordered and received this: http://www.drcolorchip.com/ I'm hoping to be able to try it out next week. I have high hopes but we'll see. I'll post an update when I'm done.

POST 5Original post

www.langka.com Works great. No toothpicks required...

POST 6Original post

I am a langka believer. The system is remarkable on most colors. Not great with silver but darker colors are easy. You just paint and dry until you get a raised area of dry paint, then use the solution that literally dissolves away the blob with a padded plastic insturment (like a credit card covered with soft cotton cloth) until the repaired area is flush with the finished surface. Then you put a hardener over it and you are done. Amazing. Will

POST 7Original post

Can I just buy the Langka blob eliminator since I already have the paint pen?

POST 8Original post

Yes. Just keep applying coats with the paint pen until you form the blob. From my experience Langka works great for solid non-metallic colors.

POST 9Original post

I would toss the pen and buy a small container of touch-up paint from the dealer (the one with a brush attached to the cap). You can get a small container of clearcoat too. Langka works with metallic colors but you have to use it somewhat differently. I got lousy results when I filled a chip with metallic paint (10-15 very thin layers). I got great results when I used a single layer of metallic touch up and then filled the chip with clear, using Langka on the resulting clear blob. A tip - you can clean out the chip (with Langka) and start all over if you don't like how it turned out. Just don't wait too long!

POST 10Original post

I also recommend Langka...just be patient with it. I even went over some spots that were touched up a year earlier and it made them almost unnoticable with out having to reaply paint. Good luck!

POST 11Original post

Just a quick question this, does the use of Langka in any way risk paint removal to the surronding area? Is there a chance you could make the problem worse if you're not careful? Does rubbing alcohol work just as well? I got my first rock chip today.

POST 12Original post

One word: SYRINGE. Go to your local medical supply house, and buy a handful of new small syringes. Use them to apply light amounts of paint into the chips over a few days. After 3 or 4 applications, you should have it built up enough. Then use 2000 grit dipped in water, and lightly sand it out, then buff it with Machine Glaze #3, follow by Paint Cleaner and wax of choice. Works every time.

POST 13Original post

I use Eric's method of paint and sandpaper but for the novice the chemical peel is probably a little easier to handle...emotionally.

POST 14Original post

I'll have to check out Langka. Luckily, my 996 has very few chips at this point. I've used the pen before, with great results: http://www.paintscratch.com/ I just ordered one for this car.

POST 15Original post

A paper match ! Tear off a paper match and use the torn end as a applicator. Tooth paste can be applied to a damp rag to remove any rust stain or dirt that might have formed in the chip. Apply a small coat of paint with the match end & let dry. May take a couple of coats to cover.

POST 16Original post

Yes, it will look terrible. Even if you get the paint just on the chips, you will make them all stand out when you try putting on the clear. You'll have little shiny spots that catch your eye just as much as before you did the paint. Look at the option http://drcolorchip.com/porsche We used it in black and guards red. Both cars had hood peppered with white chips. You can't even tell now unless you put your nose up to the hood. Very simple process, figure 30 minutes for an average hood, and an hour for you **** ones who will want to fix all those near-microscopic marks that you'll no doubt keep finding. Good stuff though, but READ the instructions or you'll start painting and go WT???? They are short, but certainly worth the read!
