Suspected cause

I think this is due to the Advan having soft rubber and the manufacturer having to put enough rubber on the tire for it to last more than a couple months or a couple track days.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You have been a proponent of the Michelin PS2 for a long time. I am leaning to the SO2a. Please try to change my mind. All others feel free to chime in.

POST 2Original post

Get the Yokahama Advan Neovo AD07. Best tire in the world hands down. ONLY tire listed as EXTREME performance on Tirerack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...neova_ad07.jsp

POST 3Original post

Jeff, I actually used the S02's on the track! Great tire in my opinion. If I had to rank the N-rated tires for the car the top 2 would be the PS2 and the S02. As for the non N-rated tires I have no idea about the Advan line.

POST 5Original post

Those ratings are worthless. They are against tires that NOBODY would say great things about on this board. Maybe the tuner crowd. And the reviews by "buyers" on the tire rack site are really nothing I would pay attention to. The BEST advice you will get is from a parametric sample that is represented by the 996 crowd and THIER personal expderience.

POST 6Original post

Neova Track tire...hmmmm. Have you used them on the track in your pcar? Having spent a weekend on the track with these tires, I missed my SO2A's. I think the proper term is wobble. Take a look at the tread height on the Advans vs. the So2A's. First, the Advans weight a $#@#@# ton, the rear tire actually weighted more than my Kinesis rim!! I think this is due to the Advan having soft rubber and the manufacturer having to put enough rubber on the tire for it to last more than a couple months or a couple track days. That excess rubber will of course wear down, but then that has its own issues. The really big blocks also cause a bit of wobble of squishiness that was JUST not there on e SO2A's. Don't get me wrong, they held their own and were super sticky on the track, almost tacky by the end of the day. I think the Tirerack ranking is misleading, as I don't think they picked comparable tires. in the end, I was not blown away. I guess the only way I can really be 100% there is a difference is to a/b test them on the same track, same day, etc, but that is my opinion on the matter.

POST 8Original post

If I'm not mistaken they don't make the S02a's any longer. I ran P-Zero's exclusively on my 2001, went through about 5 sets - very soft tire, but I did get used to them. My C4S came from the factory with PS2's and it took a little getting used to but I really like them now. jmtc, Rob

POST 9Original post

Riads right, they no longer make SO2's. PSII is by far the best for street tires, IMHO of course.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No Riad is wrong! I spoke to tech support at Bridgestone and they said the the S02a is still in production yet they are on national backorder( tire rack says they have them in stock). The s03 is out of production or very soon will be. S02 is gone. He said the s02a has another year or so. The 997s come with RE050a which carry the N1 approval. PS2s are not available in a 285/30-18 and I don't think it is wise to step to a 295 since I am upgrading from a 265. Any comments?

POST 11Original post

Run the 295 if you match it with the 235 front. If not I would stick with the 225/265 or 225/285 combo.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will the 235 front fit on my 7.5 wheel?

POST 13Original post

Matt H. is a Rennlister, and he works for Bridgestone so I've asked him to chime in.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool, Maybe he can shed some light on all these new tires from Bridgestone?

POST 15Original post

nope, the 7.5 will be a 225 tire. You need the 8" front to get the 235 tire.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thats what I thought so A 285 rear is what I want which leaves the PS2 out. I have S03s now and I know Rennlisters have bashed the hell out of them but they served me well. S02a is my next tire if I can get them. I would like to know more about the new tires from the big B though.

POST 17Original post

S-03 is discontinued and hasnt been in production for some months (with the exception of some OE sizes for Nissan). S-02 is gone except the OE tires (I.e. the S-02 Pole Position is long gone). The 265/35R18 and 285/30R18 are both available. S-02A is an OE tire and is still current and available in both the sizes I mentioned. Some size information would be helpful. I didnt look at fronts since I have no idea what you guys are running, the 225/40R18 should be available. PS, the Potenza RE-01R is a better tire than the Advan Neova in every possible way, regardless of the TR testing. It is also an "extreme performance" tire. __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote

RE050A Pole Position, what do you want to know? __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote

POST 19Original post

Anybody know anything about BFG g-force KDWs?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Matt, great info! I ordered my S02a's so I guess my questions are now moot. According to Bridgestone the S02a has about a year left so this will be my last set. Which of the new tires will be the replacement and what is the difference. I believe that the re050a is has a N1 rating.

POST 22Original post

Jeff, the RE050 does NOT have an N rating. The N-rated tires for the car are: Pilot Sport Contisport S02(A) PZero

POST 23Original post

Matt, I'd like to know which of the Bridgestone tires produces the quietest ride. I read in a magazine that some of the Bridgestone models have treads designed to create sound waves that would cancel out the noise of the tires through the principle of destructive interference. Which of the 996 sized tire models utilize that technology? Wait, are the RE050A's the replacements and as good or better than the S02A's? The RE050s are so much less expensive, it seems like they would be something like an entry level tire. At Tirerack it would be $71 less for each rear tire and $58 less for each front tire. That's $258 less than the S02A's...

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, Isn't the 050a OEM on the 997?

POST 26Original post

If anybody is usinga 17" rim the S02-A and PS2 and PSRIB weight less than any other tire out there except the KUMHO MX... (which I hear isn't that good)... which has the stiffer sidewall.. SO2-A, PS2 or PSRIB?? I have S02-A and *love* them... but I'm hearing good things about the PS-RIB... which is better PS2 or PS-RIB? which has better steering response?

POST 27Original post

Don't know the PS2 but on my bmw I love the PSRib over the Bridgestone re040 (not sure if that's close to re050). The re040 is quiet and has stiff sidewalls for good feel but the ride suffers terribly and tramlining is unbelievable. All dissappeared with mich PS.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

S02a's installed today Got a better price at Discount Tire than Tirerack and included install. For the 20 miles I drove today, I love them. there fairly quiet and give a nice ride. They have a 140 tread wear rating which compared to my S03's 220 rating, is a bit lower. How does that relate to realtime miles?

POST 30Original post

What is the quietest tire anyone would recommend. I've been driving a lot of 200 mile each way round trips on I-75 and the GoodYear F1 GSd3s were so noisy I put my ContiSports back on. They are better, but I would like to find a tire with maximum road comfort for the next year or so. I have two sets of wheels, so I would like to buy a set of tires just for comfort for these trips. Grip and performance aren't of primary concern, at least until I don't thave to make these trips so often. Thanks for any advice.

POST 31Original post

The Bridgestone RE750 tires are quieter than the Pirelli P-Zero tires. They are NOT "N" rated. They have a harder rubber compound and have a stiffer side wall than the Pirelli tires. I have had them on the car for 4,500 miles and the wear seems far superior compared to the P-Zeros. I really liked the P-Zeros, but they just wore out too fast. Driving 17K miles per year, I was replacing the P-Zero rear tires every 9 months. The only downsides of the RE750 tires is that they don't come in 285/30 R18. I have 265/30 R18. The second downside is that because of the harder rubber and stiffer sidewalls, they give a slightly harsher ride over highway expansion joints. Hope this helps.
