Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off, I just changed my oil. I have owned all sorts of cars, including older P cars, and I just gotta say that the 996 is hands down the easiest sports car to change the oil on I have every had. I bought the car used and noticed the air filter looks like a K&N but has a bright red rubber gasket instead of the dark purple-ish ones K&N uses. No markings. Anyone know what brand it is?

POST 2Original post

Most likely a BMC filter. Porsche uses these in all their race cars and I have one in my car.

POST 3Original post

so how much better is the BMC than the K&N panel filter?

POST 4Original post

I doubt they are much different. With either one I would wrap it in newpaper overnight before using it - so it won't foul the MAF with excess oil.

POST 6Original post

for those of you who have flat panel filters.... how many miles do you wait before you clean it....?
