Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Then adjust the height with the headlight adjustment tool from your tool kit and youre set.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust height' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust height' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. All you have to do is install the litronics in place of the old lights and then adjust the lights with the tool.

You can find an allen wrench long enough to adjust the lights I believe.

The adjustment tools feeds into a channel to adjust the position of the projector lens.

Then I saw mention of possibly needing to replace the headlight fuse with something bigger (although then I again wonder if the wiring is up to that)

I seem to find things saying you can just bolt the litronics into my 99 996 c2 that currently has the stock halogens (I'm wanting to replace the orange lens headlights)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Before I fixed it, people were turnin' on their brights to alert me...
I have been searching but not coming up with a positive answer.
I have found a set of litronics

but can't decide what is involved with converting to them
I seem to find things saying you can just bolt the litronics into my 99 996 c2 that currently has the stock halogens (I'm wanting to replace the orange lens headlights)
But then I also am finding things saying I need another wiring harness... it seems maybe I can bolt them in, but they will function more like a regular light, although still brighter and clearer then my stock ones. But that without an extra wiring harness the high and low beams won't "combine" when on high for even extra brightness?
Then I saw mention of possibly needing to replace the headlight fuse with something bigger (although then I again wonder if the wiring is up to that)
Thanks for the help
You dont need a harness. Just take out your old lights and install the litronics. Then adjust the height with the headlight adjustment tool from your tool kit and youre set. If you use the harness and module you will have high beam HID lights also but its not necesarry.
Yep, I personally learned the value of the Porsche OEM tool kit when one of my litronics got out of alignment. The adjustment tools feeds into a channel to adjust the position of the projector lens. Without that adjustment, I would be blinding people at night. Before I fixed it, people were turnin' on their brights to alert me... and flashing the lights and all. hahaha.
Actually, you have to switch pins 4 and 5 around in the original wiring harness if I remember correctly. (I would have to dig around to remember) So, it's not plug and play but you dont need a new harness as you can alter the old one and of course the ride height leveling portion won't work in your car.
This is incorrect. All you have to do is install the litronics in place of the old lights and then adjust the lights with the tool. Ive done this on 2 cars already.
You can find an allen wrench long enough to adjust the lights I believe.
well, the set i had committed to buying, fell through... but it is still good knowledge to have if i come across another set that doesnt cost more then half the other cars i own
lol
I appreciate the responses!
Sorry I don't know what the HID or Fill in bulbs are.
But you (and another poster) bring up a good point. I should take a closer look at all my bulbs. Maybe there is a simple reason that both high beams don't work.
Apparently this only affect MK2 vehicles..
Looking at the back of the headlight, the connector for Xenon headlamps is as follows.
|------------------------------------------|
| # 7 | # 8 | # 9 | #10 | #11 | #12 |
| # 6 | # 5 | # 4 | # 3 | # 2 | # 1 |
|------------------------------------------|
#1 Turn signal
#2 Side marker light
#3 Fog light
#4 High beams
#5 Not connected
#6 Common ground for above lights
#11 Xenon low beams
#12 Ground for low beams
...However, the Halogen type uses pin #5 for hi beams, so to make Xenons hi beams work, you must swap pins #4 and #5.
See this schematic...
It's a quick 5 minute fix to swap the wires/pins over on each harness.
Hope that clears everything up...
Thanks very much. Mystery solved.
Clarification below, to benefit any future reader of this thread:
As you state, "this only affects Mk2 vehicles". Meaning (a) the Mk2 vehicles have two different wire harnesses. One for Standard headlights and one for Litronics. Whereas (b) the Mk1 swap is truly "Plug and Play".
It might be more complicated that that, but that's the bottom line if one swaps out the lights without the control module.
THANKS AGAIN.
I have not swapped out my headlights yet, but plan to because I can only see about 15 feet in from of me with the ones it is wearing now! I just bought the car very recently and am not a Porsche expert or anything near that. However, my HIGH BEAMS work when I pull the turn signal/high beam switch, but not if I push it to the ON position. Funny it worked one time out of the blue last week but now wont work at all. I am having the same exact problem with my Boxster. Both are 2003. Seems like a common problem to me but I have not read a thread on it yet. Can anyone shed light on why the High Beam ON switch does not work??
Answered in the other thread,, but my 03 has awesome low beams , their cutoff is very solid, so if even slightly out of alignment they sick,
Halogens age as well, so longn before they burn out they lose up to 50% of the light,, I change mine annually if I'm driving a lot..
I haven't paid attention or looked,, but is there any chance that the "low" beam HID in the early car vs later car is standard D1s vs Bi-Xenon D1S? that might explain the different wiring.. There may even be 2 different units,, the bi-xeon would give you a high beam in BOTH high and low sockets.. Which would ROCK.. Hmm.. I may have to do some looking..
Cheers
