Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone had their windsheild replaced in So Calif? - a trusted/proven referral would be most appreciated. Thanks Bond

POST 2Original post

Call your dealer for a referral. Otherwise, try Safelite. (800) 800-ASAP. They are not cheap, but they have a great warranty and all of their glass is American made, not Chinese like some other glass companies.

POST 3Original post

i used safelite and they were less than $500. that seemed pretty cheap to me.

POST 4Original post

BOND, As I mentioned in a post over in the 996TT forum, I recently experienced a broken window on my GF's Saab. I got it fixed over at Brundige Glass in Brea. Tim Brundige runs the place, and it has been a family business for many years. The shop is spotless and the work is very professional. His prices are about 40% more expensive than Safelite, but he uses all OEM glass so you are getting the real deal, not a generic window. He does accept insurance claims, so if you can run it through that way, it doesn't really matter how much he charges.

POST 5Original post

It's important not to drive the car for 24 hours after the windshield is replaced to let the adhesive cure properly. So either have it done at a shop and leave it there for a day or have it done at your home. This will eliminate potential cowl shake.

POST 6Original post

fwiw, safelite comes to your house if you like.

POST 7Original post

So those that have had their windshield replaced....did you end up getting the glass from Porsche or did you use aftermarket? Pros/cons?

POST 8Original post

You can't use aftermarket in 996 cars because the radio antenna is built into the windshield. If you get a generic replacement, you lose your radio.

POST 9Original post

I should replace my front windshield soon too. I can't believe how pitted it has become.

POST 10Original post

There have been a number of discussions here about Porsche glass and how soft it is. It pits very easily. Some have gone with after market as it is more durable. I'm not sure about the comment re: antenna. May need to check. It doesn't make sense that the after market would not have it. My wife's GS400 was done with after market and the glass was a perfect match to the original - including the antenna.

POST 11Original post

Does anyone know more about this? I would LOVE to get a better windshield if possible. I have never heard of this. I didn't realize that different company's glass had softer or harder properties.
