Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks everyone BUT when I got home I left the car running, got out and checked the coolant jug and it was almost to the full mark.
Leading evidence: 'Check coolant jug and it was almost' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'coolant tank' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check coolant jug and it was almost' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When my 99 996 was jacked up on one side to replace a spare tyre I noticed that coolant was leaking.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had the same thing happen last week. My coolant level was just at the bottom line, so I added a few drops. The light hasn't blinked again, but it wasn't really 'low'.... Strange...

I'm not sure what the deal was but it hasn't done it since.
Weird....
Hi
I have a similar problem with mine at the moment. When my 99 996 was jacked up on one side to replace a spare tyre I noticed that coolant was leaking. Didnt know what to make of it. I noticed there was a kind of overspill pipe. Hoping that this was the only problem the water was topped up. Did a short trip and nothing - no leak???
Then I took the car for a motoway drive and as I approached the destination I could smell coolant. After inspecting the coolant bottle some coolant has leaked.
Problem is where from?
Looking at the bottle I could not see any cracks. However on the top of the bottle there is a slight lip and I could see a small pool of liquid. I noticed that the ' valve ' on the top seemed to have some crystalisation crust around the top of it. A garage mechanic had a look at it and thinks the valve needs replacing?
Has anyone else had this valve replaced as opposed to the whole bottle - or is it a single part?
thanks
Nick
NickS, I had the exact same problem. The mechanic at the dealership discovered that one of the temperature sensors was loose. It's the one that sits just above the engine. It came out of its harness and was resting on the engine. I don't think it's something that is easy to see. The mechanic discovered it when he reached back there.

The black thing on top of the tank is the bleed valve. There are 1 or 2 O-rings in there and they can be replaced if that is what is leaking. But it is usually the tank, more so with a 1999.
