I know it would bother most people to have to sell something they own at a price someone else has set, only to watch while the person who bought it turns around and sells the same item for a huge profit.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the opportunity to buy a Ford GT at Ford employee price, so I am thinking about it. I have been told that they aren't going to sell many of these and that already these cars are going for over sticker via brokers and auctions (although I didn't know that any were really available yet). If I do choose to buy it and then think about reselling it, can anyone point me to a source for pricing so I can figure out whether or not this might be a good "investment" in terms of being able to turn the car around for a profit? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

You might want to look at Ebay and see if anyone has posted anything.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nope nothing on Ebay except a GT40 replica with a buy it now price of 74K, starting bid of 55K and no bids. I found that the first car is supposed to go to the winner of the auction this past fall at the concours d'elegance at pebble beach, but it didn't say how much it fetched at the charity auction, and charity auctions are necessarily good indicators of what the actual market price will be. There seems to be some descrepancy as to how many cars will be made, I've seen anywhere from 1500 to 4000.

POST 4Original post

They are like gold dust 1500.....I think - DonnyJ

POST 5Original post

Awsome Car Its true only 500 of these cars will be made, From what i know the car should be selling for $125,000.00 (CND) at todays exchange rate will be around $ 90,000.00 (USD).First off how are you gettting an employee price, they WILL NOT DISCOUNT FOR ANYONE....The car will be so limited that if you want one its full pop or higher. IF you can get a deal grab it and run, because it will be a very desired car.The car will not be going in to canada for the first production year, and its life span will be only 2 years for 250 cars a year..............AS per data the car is oversold as it is. Ford Brass is thinking of making more, but as i said it is not final.........BUY>>>> YOU WILL LOVE THIS CAR

POST 6Original post

I'll give you $10K plus what you pay for it. I love the car and would really like to get one. Roy

POST 7Original post

Hey Roy, My son has a 2003 Dodge Neon. Will you give me $10,000 more than I paid for that? Heck, I'd just take $10,000

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Roy, Thanks for the offer up front. I confirmed that I can get at least one and it looks like maybe as many as 3 but there could be some snags with ordering more than 1, in other words it might be 1 at employee price and 2 at MSRP, but that's still TBD. I'll keep the offer in mind, but of course if these are going for a lot more I'd have to decline, then again if they go for a lot less I'll have to hold you to it! I looked around some auto broker websites and Google'd my way through many Ford GT and Ford GT40 websites and couldn't really find anything yet, which means it is probably still too early to tell, but that's ok. Now I have to think about what color combo to order if I go through with this. What do you think would be most desireable? Red with white stripe? the Aqua/Orange "Shell" version? White with blue stripe? Yellow with black stripe? Blue with white stripe? Or does it not really matter?

POST 9Original post

My only observation is that neither GT2 or GT3 are being bought at a premium to list. In fact the GT2 (far more exclusive given production numbers) are not holding value, let alone trading up. And these are Porsches, not a Ford. I would think that if you get one of the first cars you might be able to flip it. If you are later in the allocation, I would be surprised if you could make much (if anything). Just my opinion.

POST 10Original post

The Ford GT sold at the Christie's auction at Pebble Beach went for $557,500. The first year production is scheduled to be 1500 uinits. Don't you read AutoWeek? Info above excerpted from the 01/05/04 issue.

POST 11Original post

I like the red/white personally. If you decide to do something, shoot me an e-mail. I'd love to have one and would agree that it's for my use (not to flip it)... Good luck. Roy

POST 12Original post

Sorry Bob, I just got a Ford Probe for my son Roy

POST 13Original post

Ghost...as a former employee of FoMoCo I can't imagine them selling this thing on A-plan. Is that the route you're going or do you have a different discount opportunity? Oh and I've been lusting after one for some time now.....

POST 14Original post

AutoWeek blurb also said the car will sticker at $140K (US). If they are going to produce 1500 per year, that seems like a lot of supply for a car in that price range, especially if the dealers try to get over sticker. That would put them almost head-to-head with the 360 Modena. Karl

POST 15Original post

Suggestion: Barrett-Jackson (watch them auction on the Speed Channel Jan. 21-24!) would love to get a chance to sell it for you and will surely get top dollar! J

POST 17Original post

on ford's web-site they state they'll be making 1500/year (for i think it said 3 years). if you're gonna flip it, flip it quickly because with those production numbers, it should start tanking about 6 months into production at the latest IMO.

POST 18Original post

First, as someone who knows a little about what's going on with Ford GTs and the allocation plans, I am fairly certain that there will not be an employee discount (A-plan). For example, there was not an A-plan available on Thunderbird for the first three model years. Secondly, no dealer is obligated to sell a vehicle at A-plan. They can choose to pass on the deal and tell you to look elsewhere. While Ford may not be happy with this, it happens all the time. When the Navigator first came out and was hot, dealers would not sell at A-plan when they could get full sticker deals. Lastly, with regard to you being able to get your hands on three. You are being very misinformed if someone is telling you that. (Unless perhaps you are related to a Ford dealer). The most any Ford dealer will get in year one is 3 units, with many Ford dealers not getting even one unit. Remember, there are 4,000 Ford dealers.

POST 19Original post

Just a few things to consider: A. It's a Ford. B. It's $140,000 + dealer markup C. In case you forgot, it's a FORD!! Sorry guys, I loves me my Ford Super Duty truck, but that's already overpriced at $50K. My Corvette was great for $52K. A Viper is great at $70K. My 996TT is out of this world for $99K. But c'mon, a Ford for $140K++++???? Get outta here. OK, so you might be able to make a few bucks flipping it in the first few months...maybe even a year. But just like the Corvette, T-Bird, 996TT, and every other overpriced high-demand car, it will fall like a rock, and they will be giving huge incentives after awhile.

POST 20Original post

Check out how much "the right to buy one of the first Ford GTs" is going for on eBay: over $64,000 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2455106587

POST 21Original post

That's the most moronic auction I've ever seen.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is it moronic because it is listed, or moronic because someone would pay that much? I asked a local Ford dealership and they said if they get one they expect to sell it for $100K over MSRP! Ouch!

POST 23Original post

Idiots! "Reserve not met" at $64,000? Either this is a BS artist and doesn't have the car, or this is one of the greediest SoBs around

POST 24Original post

Nice misrepresentations in that ad - the MSRP was announced weeks ago and the production count is 1500 for the 1st year, not model lifetime.

POST 25Original post

I find it to be very humorous the statements people make sometimes on this forum. They state info like it was fact and it is not even close. I always wondered about this, whether people just make up stuff, but this topic is something I know FOR A FACT about and it is amazing the things people say. Well, in order to put some facts to this topic, I will try to help out. In order to qualify my statements I will say that I run a large Ford dealership, am a car enthusiast, and have spent a lot of time reading about, anticipating the arrival of, and talking to my local Ford management about the Ford GT. Ford currently plans to build 3500 GTs over the next 2 1/2 years. I think we all may know that factories tend to change such plans depending on a models success so, who knows. Ford will start production April 29, 2004 and has said they can build 700 in the first year for the U.S. The GT will sticker for $139900 plus destination, options and taxes. Many dealers will most likely hope to get more than sticker. Ford has announced an unusual allocation plan in which some dealers will receive 2 GTs, max, and many will get none. The plan will give 1 car to top volume dealers, very vague and still undefined, 1 to President award winning dealers, ( high CSI and other criteria) and then they will use a raffle system to allocate the rest. Under this plan the most a dealer can get from the factory is 2. Ford will not officially announce GT recipients until the end of February so any dealer that is promising cars at this point is still being hopeful, although dealers that fit the first two above stated criteria are likely to get one. I am fairly sure the Gt will not be available at Ford employee price, A plan. Ford controls the A plan program, and as someone else said, does not usually offer it on limited, high demand vehicles. Plus, Ford pays the dealers a bonus to sell a car at A plan- why would they do this plan on a hot car. I do think it's funny when people say "it's a Ford", no way is it worth $140k. We should all know it is a global car industry and vehicles are not so easily labeled. Heck, Porsches are built with parts from VW which gets parts from Bentley, and who knows where else. The Gt combines both American V8 heritage with exotic aluminum space frame construction from exotic suppliers all over the world, including Aston Martin and race car builders many of us have never heard of. Heck yeah, it's a Ford, and great one at that, IMHO. I don't want to sound too obnoxious, but I would have a hard time buying a a GT at sticker, so I doubt anyone else can buy 3 of them. But good luck and I look forward to any proof of the results.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bruce, Are Ford dealers allowed to charge over MSRP for their cars? I know BMW and Porsche have restrictions on this at times, and other car brands don't, like Toyota. Do you know if all President's Award winning dealerships will get a car, or only those that are drawn in the raffle? There seems to be some confusion over this point.

POST 27Original post

Yes, Ford dealers may charge over sticker. Ford does not restrict the practice at this time. Yes, all President's Award dealers will be offered a GT. Strangely, Ford did send out a sign-up form that we had to send back saying that we wanted to participate in GT sales. Ford also sent out a very specific memo to all dealers about three weeks ago explaining the allocation system. Your dealer should have no confusion based on the info in that memo. Thanks for the intelligent inquiry. I will be happy to provide any other info I can as it becomes available.

POST 28Original post

Ghost Rider: I don't think legally Porsche can restrict dealers from selling over retail. They can provide incentives to prevent it though such as adjusting allocations and the occasional extra "pool" car (which usually comes with Jr. Pimp level options - someone in PCNA has a weird sense of humor ). There were several examples of dealers asking over MSRP for GT3s (several had EBay ads) and I know some have been telling customers their CGT's will be priced at "market". Luckily it's not too hard to find a dealer that is satisfied with MSRP, or less.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking back to the days of the Boxster when it first came out and dealers were selling them in the low to mid 40's, the MSRP price, and people would turn around and resell them for 60K+. At the time I was told that Porsche doesn't allow them to sell over MSRP but if I wanted to get a Boxster back then it would be a year plus wait. I received a similar story from BMW when the M Roadster first came out, dealers were selling for MSRP and one told me they couldn't sell over. Sorry for the confusion, I was just wondering what the rules might be for Ford since one dealership told me if they got a car they thought they could get 100K over. To which my response was - OUCH!

POST 30Original post

I think it will be very interesting to see how the GT does in the market. Will it really command $100k over? Industry publications report people have tried to bypass the dealers and buy one right from Ford, even appealing to Bill Ford. Luckily, Ford is loyal enough to their dealers and franchise law prevents it. Fair pricing does present a moral dilemma. I know it would bother most people to have to sell something they own at a price someone else has set, only to watch while the person who bought it turns around and sells the same item for a huge profit. If you were a car dealer, with a huge investment in your business, and you sold someone a car they subsequently flipped for a big payoff, how would you feel?

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Didn't Ferrari come up with a way to try and minimize that by requiring F-50 buyers to have already owned a Ferrari and they could only lease them, they weren't allowed to sell the car for something like 3 years? I guess Ford could do something similar.

POST 32Original post

I have read that(don't know for a fact) Ferrari leased the F-50 in an attempt to control the speculative market. Ford required it's dealers to have buyers of the new T-Bird sign an agreement not to resell the car for 6 months. Funny, now we can't give one away.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How would you enforce that? I mean if you sold the car to the buyer how could you enforce them not selling it for 6 months? I understand you could put it in the sales contract but wouldn't that require someone from Ford checking up on the buyer to see whether or not they still owned it at 6 months? I don't know who at Ford thought the new style T-Bird was going to command premiums and special treatment... I don't know too many people who care for them, no offense intended.

POST 34Original post

Yeah, the agreement was pretty much an idle threat. One can always naively hope that people are true to their word, especially when they sign an agreement, but we all know that most peoples' word means nothing today. Many did pay over sticker and waited over a year to purchase the T-Bird when they first came out. I am now offering two '03 leftovers for way under invoice made possible by big $ Ford dealer cash. We car lovers are a fickle bunch. Hot today, under invoice tomorrow. Ford did do a horrible job marketing and sustaining the T-Bird.

POST 35Original post

Bruce - assuming you are a President's award winner or are large enough to receive at least one unit of allocation - have you decided how much you'll sell for? Has anyone contacted you to inquire? Reason I ask is I know a dealer (that is a President's award winner and therefore will get at least one unit) who told me someone offered him $250K and he said no. There are at least some dealers who are planning on holding out for the big bucks...

POST 36Original post

I believe we are large enough to receive a car, but Ford will not announce for sure till the end of February. I am not sure what we will charge as the market is still speculation. I do not like charging over sticker but it is not my property and my owner has different ideas. The highest price I have heard dealers discussing is $100k over and I think $50k is more realistic. There are a lot of awesome cars you can buy for $250,000, so I think the dealer you spoke of is going to be sorry he didn't take that offer. I know a GT sold for $550k at auction, but I think that was an anomaly. Getting the first one, the proceeds going to charity, and someone with a lot of money. But, as I've said, It's a weird world. Offer me $250k for the car and it's yours.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bruce, Does your dealership already have a waiting list? If so, what did you require people to put down to get a spot in line?

POST 38Original post

hey bruce. i think your biz is going to do fantastically well over the next couple years with all the great cars ford is rolling out. that 05 mustang, especially in cab, is just so great looking! then there is the GT. i recently bought an 04 SC lariat (my first american car in 2 decades) and my limited service experience has been good. it's silly when people say "but it's a ford" about the GT. who cares? it's great that an american car company is making competitive desirable cars again.

POST 39Original post

Sorry guys that I didn't respond earlier. Had to work today. No, we don't have a waiting list. I think $1000 deposit would put your name at the top. Thanks Ben for the encouragement. I know you're into cars, so hearing that from you as a consumer and industry observer, is great. I am glad you like your truck. I hope you have great luck with it. Buy a Ford Gt instead of that other Gt.

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bruce, I'll send you $1000 tomorrow if you'll sell it to me at MSRP if you get one! Deal?

POST 41Original post

I am not sure yet how much we will be asking, but keep in touch and we'll see what happens.
