Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Haven't looked a comparative repair stats lately, but these cars take a beating and have never needed anything other than routine maintenance.
Leading evidence: 'Repair stats lately' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair stats lately' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I posted this on the 944 board but I thought this might be a better place to ask since people here are more likely to have a Mercedes as another car. We are looking to replace my moms 98 BMW 5 series and I was wondering does any one know any thing about the E class Mercedes 320's and 320 4matics (99-03) and can give me some helpful info?
Not sure what you're looking for. I drove a '94 E320 for years; loved it. My dad drives an '00 E320; loves it. My wife drives a '02 S430; loves it. Softer ride than the BMW. Haven't looked a comparative repair stats lately, but these cars take a beating and have never needed anything other than routine maintenance. MB builds the E class to be a world car, which means it's supposed to handle the widest variety of operating conditions. (I also drove a BMW 740iL for 2 years, so I'm not speaking as a MB bigot).
i just got an 03 e500 sport and it is incredible. Very fast and comfortable ride. the only problem is that I get worse gas mileage than my 996. I would imagine the 320 is better in economic sense, but you will miss out on alot of options which are standard on the 500.
I also have an 03 e500 sport. Great car. The new models came out in 03.

That's my car on the front page and a pre-atkins picture of me somewhere on the site!
Had a 97 E420 for a while, very easy to drive. Nice small sedan, easy power and good features for the money.
Today's Mercedes are another world altogether. I also now have a 2000 S500. Much heavier and more power than the E, but well-built compared to today's boxes. Daimler's influence can only be seen during major surgery.
At BumperPlug HQ, we see a lot of cars in distress. Today's Mercedes have more pop rivets than ever before. The cars from a few years back were much more solid than today. This does NOT apply across the entire line - mostly the S and E seem to have gone the cheap route with manufacturing.
And this is nothing you'd see on your own unless you took the doors apart and other sections.
But for a '00 - '02 E class, you should be fine. Enjoy it.
I have an '03 E55 AMG. While certainly a different animal than the 320 4-matic, it is the same body, and has most of the same interior and electronic bits. Quality is just okay, worse than I expected for the money. Not sure I'd do it again- lots of little, niggly problems. Suggestion- stay away from things like Parktronic (goes off in the snow constantly), Pano roof (littel annoying rattles), and tire pressure monitor (goes on the fritz a lot, and God forbid you change to winter tires and wheels- then need to get the whole thing turned off or suffer through constant messages.
Having said that, it goes like stink and looks pretty cool, so I have mixed feelings. Had two 7-series BMWs before this, just didn't like the new body style.
Good luck.
