Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought the battery was dead so I replaced it. Still doesn't work I get a very quick red light "blink" when I push the button but that's it. And it may take 4-5 pushes on the button to even get that. The CB and battery are back in the body the right way, the body is closed correctly, etc...just in case someone makes those suggestions. I saw that I can actually remove the key itself from the remote body so can I just order a new remote body? If so, how is it coded to my car? Anyone know the cost of this little gem?!

POST 2Original post

Mine did that 5 years ago on my Boxster. Turned out the little push button switch under the button had broken the solder joint where it is soldered in the circuit board. Open the key and see if you can wiggle the switch. I soldered it. Watch out if you buy a key head on ebay as it will not work unless it has the paper tag with the 24 digit programing code.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's exactly what it is....the joint is broken. Never noticed it....thanks a million! I'll fix it tonight!

POST 4Original post

I wonder what the cost is to replace them. I remember on my BMW that they gave you one grace replacement, then it was about $300 a key.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, I went into the electronics lab and had one of our guys solder the switch back down. Still doesn't work Guess I'll run a multimeter across it and see if I get any connectivity through the board and go from there.

POST 6Original post

I had the same problem on my 01 986S - the dealership charged me $280.00 to replace the key.
