Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you're looking for better sound, and you're still running the stock exhaust, then I'd suggest changing over to a sport exhaust and leave your airbox alone.
Leading evidence: 'Run 4 or 5 g-tech right' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace over' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I know some use the K&N or Evo filter but I use the BMC F1 and that seems to be the one they like to sell as a package.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read the previous posts regaurding The FabSpeed Cold air kit for the 996.My question is this, Is it worth it, i understand it wont be hugh HP gains, but will it sound better during takeoff. I would like anyones input on this.
This subject keep repeating itself....
Anyway, the answer is Yes. There is a noticable difference. The cold airbox install will give you a simulated "mild" difference in exhaust sound. For best results though you need to upgrade the Exhaust itself.
Fabspeed have provided a good video that shows the differences:

I know some use the K&N or Evo filter but I use the BMC F1 and that seems to be the one they like to sell as a package. Maybe they are matched. Dunno.
This one shows off the Maxflow mufflers:

This one shows off their GT3 bypass pipes. These are totally Rad baby!
Anyone actually have these installed. I am considering riping off my Maxflow system to install this. Love it.

I am happy with mine. Sound is nice and it lets out a cool growl right at 5k to 5.3k. I ran 4 or 5 G-Tech right before and right after. The passing gears and times SEEMED to be about .1 or .2 quicker with a little steeper slope, but who knows. Could be error in G-tech and etc. You won't feel the difference unless you are ultra sensitive and it won't make you slower.
kilrgt,
Please tell us more about your car.
If you're looking for better sound, and you're still running the stock exhaust, then I'd suggest changing over to a sport exhaust and leave your airbox alone.
I have the air kit. It's nothing more than a hose and a couple of plastic parts, but combined with my sport exhaust, it has made a very significant difference in the sound of my car. I appreciate more induction music, especially at WOT from 4K rpm and on. The car sounds much racier. As a consequence, though, I have lost some of the off-throttle "burble", which is still present but not quite as noticeable. Having said that, I prefer the airbox mod sound much better.
With respect to throttle response, the car is more immediate. It responds quicker to pedal inputs. No objective timing here, but it definitely feels quicker and more responsive to throttle inputs (with the BMC filter) which is a plus, since I got the kit for engine music reasons only.
It seems that overall, there is positive response on the Fabspeed Cold Air Intake Kit. I installed mine about a month ago, and after a few hours my check engine light came on. After reverting the car back to factory setup, I took the car into the dealer where they proceeded to tell me that my MAS went bad, and replaced it under warranty. Nice increase in intake sound, but no noticable difference in performance...or at least for the few hours I had it installed.
Past Thread
Did the MAS go bad because of the air kit? Why would that happen? My dealer saw my air kit and I asked if any danger running it and he said no.
Like RJFABCAB, I also added the Fabspeed exhaust since adding the air kit. The combination did make the car seem noticeably quicker, but for $ 225, the air kit seems to be a good deal.
