The PSS-9's shocks can be adjusted for a better ride or for a more aggressive handling.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust better ride or' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust better ride or' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Since the struts come pre-installed I believe it is relatively straightforward to perform.

Anyway, anything is easier than a clutch replacement on my old 944 turbo which was the worst repair I have ever done!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've done a search and read all the stuff on x74, ROW M030 and Pss9 coils.
I still have some unanswered questions after pondering what suspension
upgrades to do to make my 996 much more aggressive for the 6 or so DE's
I do per year.
The x74 is not a coilover, correct? But does it have more adjustability
than the ROW M030? If yes, in what specific ways is it better than the ROW M030.
Does the Pss9 full coils have even more adjustability? If yes, in what specific
ways?
Also, what are spring rates for ROW M030 and x74? I'm trying to get an idea
relatively how much stiffer the x74 and pss9' s are compared to ROW M030.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
They are all coilovers in terms of the spring coil going over the strut/damper. The ROW M030 and the X74 are NOT adjustable in any way. The PSS-9 is height and damper adjustable. The X74 lowers an ROW 996 by 30 mm all-around while the M030 will only lower the same car by 10 mm. The PSS-9 has the possibility of lowering more.
The X74 is significantly firmer than the M030 and is much more suitable for DE's. If you don't mind the lowered height and some firmness in the ride, it is the way to go. The PSS-9's shocks can be adjusted for a better ride or for a more aggressive handling. Personally, I don't like this system as it does not give you good handling while maintaining a good ride for the street. I like my car to handle great both on the street and the track.
I've been keeping an eye out for info on the x74 as well (considering it or the row m030). As yet I haven't heard a review from anybody. I'd love to know how it feels as a daily/regular driver.
Anybody know how it compares w/the GT3? I'd guess it is softer, but I wonder by how much. FWIW Paul Frere seems to prefer the 030 to the x74 as a street driven setup, based on a couple comments I've seen.
I just ordered the X74 from Gert. I will be putting it on in the next couple of weeks. I will post before/after pics and measurements, and subjective impressions later this month.
mb996,
I see you're in the Austin area--me too. I'd like to meet up with you
to say hi and check out the new x74 on your car. I'll keep an eye out
for your posts.
Rushing23: sounds good.
Roy - I haven't decided on the install. There are 3 options:
1) Dealer
2) Independent
3) Myself + dealer/independent align. Since the struts come pre-installed I believe it is relatively straightforward to perform. Anyway, anything is easier than a clutch replacement on my old 944 turbo which was the worst repair I have ever done!
I am leaning towards 1) now due to lack of time and other reasons.
Clearly 3) is the cheapest. 2) is less likely due to the relatively small savings over 1) given the additional benefits of the dealer doing the install.
I will post pics before and after, and more detailed impressions, in a few days.
First impressions from driving ~30 miles around town at typical speeds:
1) The car was lowered about 7/8" +- 1/8" all around. It may settle some. Car looks much better.
2) I thought clearance may be an issue but so far it hasn't been. No problem over reasonable speed bumps.
3) Understeer is greatly reduced if not eliminated.
4) The ride is firmer but not at all harsh, in fact it doesn't feel much different than stock.
5) There is very little body roll; though, I have not pushed it.
6) The car feels much more planted; the bobbing/weaving of the stock suspension appears reduced if not eliminated.
7) On the negative side, I noticed a front-to-back oscillation on a section of concrete freeway. I'm assuming this is a function of that particular section of road. It felt like the struts were underdamped. That may be the essence of the X74, stiffer springs with somewhat reduced shock stiffness.
So far, I would definitely recommend this upgrade. But I need more time to make an unqualified recommendation.

I'm headed down the same path (x74, RowM030, ?) and am very interested in your experience with the X74; sounds (and looks) like a cool set up...keep the cards and letters coming...
Where did you finally get it installed?
Anybody out there go with PSS9's and stiffened sway bars (like from GT3?) ?
Andy
My previous Porsche was a Millenium ( C4) It came with what Porsche Spain calls "sport's chassis" which - I believe - is the x-74 "sport's suspension" . The car handling was quite good and...harsh in most spanish roads. In highways it was perfect. I know drive a 996 TT with it's standard european suspension and - if it can be compared - the ride is more efficient than the x-74 was, and much, much more comfortable in all conditions. Again, I have to insist that in highways the x-74 ( if my suspension was a x-74 !!) was perfect. It is mostly a very personal question. I do no more than 5/6 track days per year, do not drive the TT in the city and use it mainly for my trips ( about 20.000 miles /year ).
Viken is right, Spain's "sport chasis" option (
030:Chasis deportivo
) was/is the RoWM030.
I have it one mine, and though its a great compromise for ground clearance & ride vs handling compared to the standard suspensions wich are simply pathetic for such a car, I would definatelly opt for the stiffer X74 if I could get by with such low ground clearance here, but I can't
RearBias:
I had the local dealer do the X74 install. I could have done it, but I didn't have the time, needed to buy a new torque wrench and other assorted bits, and figured that the few hundred $ in net savings was worth their time. Also I assume there should not be any "issues" down the road with a dealer install.
However, if I had more time or the price difference was higher, I would have done it. As I said in an earlier post, since the struts are pre-assembled I think it should be quite straightforward. So if you are mechanically inclined...would be a nice weekend job.
