For looks how many agree that C4S is the best looking 996. The GT2 and Turbo are great looking but the rear spoiler and the side scoops ruin the looks. For me the the ranking in good looks is
1)C4S
2)GT2
3)turbo
4)GT3
5)C2
I am not a fan of cabs, so they are not in the list. I am curious what some of you guys think.
You've got wing men and non-wing men...
I'm a wing man. I think rear spoilers balance the car out a bit at the rear and am a big fan of them as long as they are tasteful. I also like the air intakes on the side of the turbo.
Thus my ranking is:
1) GT2 - my favorite spoiler
2) Turbo
3) GT3
4) C4S
5) C2
I know many will disagree, but that's what makes the world interesting...
I'd say:
1)C4S
2)C2
3)turbo
4)GT2
5)GT3
I dont like the "pimped out" look of the "whale tail" rear spoilers. Might be nice on the track, but for everday use? I prefer driving in stealth mode
Nah. I don't agree. Sure the C4s is sexy but
they are all sexy. Some are just more sexy than others and you can make them even sexier......if you have the guts to be different that is. Mine's moded out like you wouldn't believe. Iv'e had C4s owners drooling at it too! And a 996 cab with the top down just has to be the ultimate IMHO no matter if it's a C2, C4 or TT. The sexiest 996 I have seen so far on rennlist is Don from Cape Cod's C4 Cab. No doubts about it.
I think the C4s is the best looking for the money, it may be the best value in the Porsche lineup. The other nice feature that people love or hate is the red plastic that connects the two tail lights, a 993 throw back that I really like on that car.
I like the side air intakes on the turbo, they make the car look aggressive. The rear wing doesn't offend me either way.
Agree with above that it's like women.
I prefer narrow body, don't like side air intakes, ruins the lines. Prefer narrow body for the elegance. My order:
1. 40th Anniversary 911, best of everything, color, side skirts, TT nose.
2. GT3
3. C4S don't like rear red connecting light, looks cheap
4. 996 TT in silver
Blue
To each his own, but the C4S rear reflector is one of my favorite parts of the car.
And now the gratuitous pics...
Just look at that reflector
Please ignore the ugly yellow car
Thanks. Don't forget the yellow belts, the yellow stitching on the seats, the doors and the dash, and of course the yellow hard shell backs to the sport seats. Also not shown in the picture is my DE helmet which is also speed yellow.
You can't have too much speed yellow... well except maybe for wheels...
I didn't think I would ever sell my boxster, but when I saw the C4S for the first time, I knew I had to have one. I like the regular 996, but the Turbo front bumper, louvered rear bumper, wrap around reflector and wide body is what sold me on the car.
Bling-wise...
GT2 takes the cake.
I dislike the Turbo's front end.
I dislike the C4S's Turbo front end and lack of rear spoiler, although I don't mind the 993 throwback.
I dislike all Porsche factory wheels. Needs dished 19s bad.
GT2 > GT3 > Turbo > C2 > C4S
Silver GT3 sitting on 19" BBS LMs would be my ideal.
Sorry, but first, I am not a fan of any sports cars with AWD... Furthermore, when I went in to buy my C2, I considered the C4 equally and couldn't get past the AWD and it looks like it's trying to be something it isn't... also, there's less space in the back seat and weights more. But, for those that own them, you've got a great ride.
I bought the C2 coupe because it's a great looking tight sports car that handles and performes like a track car.
Well there is whatever is on that one page I linked above, not sure if I have other interior pics laying around or not, whatcha lookin' for and I can always go snap a photo or two...
I hope you're talking about a real track ... not cones in a pklot...
I would caution you about assuming.
FYI...I've been driving various track on and off since in my 20's, including stock cars, funny cars and demolition derby. I am comfortable on a track, at high speeds and know my stock C2 can do what I need it to when and where due to my abilities
PS...
oh, does the GT2 OR GT3 come in AWD... humm I wonder why they don't, can you help me.
Because most AWD systems add too much of a weight penalty to overcome their performance improvements in the hands of most drivers. Then again AWD is outlawed in some racing series because it upset the balance of those series when they started beating all the 2WD cars. This subject has been discussed to death in other threads so I won't re-hash it here. What I took offense to was your suggestion that your C2 is in some way inherently superior on the track the C4S and it isn't. Why does the turbo come in AWD? I'm not denegrating your track skills, and yes I'm talking about a track not a parking lot where neither the C2 or C4S will do well compared to say a Boxster or a 914.
I do draw issue with your claim that sports cars don't have AWD or that AWD is somehow inherently inferior. While I understand your weight assertion the C4S is 276 pounds heavier according to the Porsche website, I don't understand the bit about the back seat being smaller. The back seat room looks the same to me in C2's and C4S's despite the C4S having a wider rear end and the potential for more rear seat room side to side. The C4S also carries the turbo suspension, wheels and tires, and brakes which improve handling over the C2. The question always comes down to can the C4S driver with a 276 pound handicap use the AWD's physics capabilities and the additional performance tools like the suspension and brakes to outperform a C2 around the track.
But that isn't what this thread is about (see other threads for that) this is about the C4S being the sexiest 996! Which it is.
I want to make it very clear that I started the topic on which car is the best looking stock 996, and ofcourse not the best performer dhuh!. If money is not an issue I would grab the GT2 and never look back.
Funny thing is that I was a wingman till I saw the C4S, infact I would have never bought a non-turbo 993. Something about this C4S, to me makes it the best looking of the bunch.
The 4WD is actually an asset for me, I can say mine is a sports car 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week, every single day of it's existance. I don't have to hide in the garage when its slippery out there, like just another corvette
i love my c4s--to me it has the sleekest design of any porsche with a rear end like sophia loren!
i must say however that i do covet a turbo as a second car! the power outweighs the reduced sleekness of design
maybe someday
First, you shouldn't take offense to my opinion and our autos are not competing. Second, there are buyers out there that will spend the added money just because... How many people own turbo's that don't have driving skills to match, nor touch the power of their turbo... And, third, Porsche is fast becoming a mkting company to match it's technology, and has to create evolving product. C4 & AWD proof of the pudding will be if it stays in the product line and dominates the track in the future.
IMO, a "sports car" has certain "basic handling" characteristics, power and drive train. I never said any other PCar was inherently inferior. I would say that many drivers have inferior driving skills and that might be influenced by AWD and computerized suspensions. IMO, AWD and computerized suspension controls, etc., are not required for outstanding handling characteristics, and they offer more issues to contend with...
I am a driving purist...driving focus, skills, my 18" tires, stock brakes and suspension on my C2 gets the job done for me. A C4 isn't going to stop any faster that my C2. I don't feel the slight added weight of a C4 means anything to anybody other then in a pure track car. As for the seat configuration, it's not a performance issue and the C4's is slightly smaller as a result of the rear end configuration of the C4. That was this daily drivers child & travel issue only.
PS... I would find value in a supercharging my C2 over a turbo any day. I am waiting for test results though. and all Porsche's are sexy!
with the yearly rainfall of southern calif awd is far less important than for us in wetter and colder locations--awd porsches were designed for the cold and wet of germany--analogous to the weather in the northeast and midwest not the land of fruits and nuts
Same as your list. Based just on looks alone:
1)C4S
2)GT2
3)TTurbo
4)GT3
Based on my engine/tranny preferences:
1)GT3
2)TTurbo
3)GT2
4)C4S
If we could only get a C4S with the internals of a GT3.... just keep dreaming, just keep dreaming, just keep dreaming dreaming dreaming...
I'm sure alot of C2 drivers hit the bends wrongly miscalculate get some oversteer reverse lock JUST keep the car under control ...at the same time having a whoosh of adrenalin that hits the pit of there stomach like that letter that said you were redundant or that letter wanting more maintanence.
They then go around telling everyone what a cool drivers car it is.
It's a joke

GT2 is hands down the most aggressive looking 911 ever made thus far.
Therefore it is my favorite.
GT3-RS would be my next favorite, because the wing on the regular GT3 Mk. 2 looks too wimpy.
C4S is nice, but the back looks too plain. Too easy to mistake with the Beetle shape, which is an inherent problem for all 911's, but less so with a nice fat wrap around wing.
About the look :
1) GT2 all the way!
2) then the Turbo,
3) C4S
4) GT3 RS
About performances :
1) Turbo (love the 4WD)
2) GT2
3) GT3 RS
3) GT3
And if i could do a mix! :/
The look and the power of the GT2, with the AWD of the Turbo, the weight of the GT3RS...!
I love the 996 as a pure designed object, and i think it shows that the 911 has now truly evolved into a beautiful machine. i like nearly all versions, although I think thye GT2 looks a bit unfortunate with that huge front bumper.
My choices are:
1) GT3
2) C4S
3) Turbo Cab
4) Turbo
Although most liely i'll be buying a C2 in a few years time and giving Uwe Gemballa a call for one of his bodykits. But only when I'm bored of my 928
Good forum, chaps
Been out of the country, looks like I missed contributing to this thread.
I like the GT3 and the GT2 in concept, because they represent the ultimate performance Porsche in NA and Turbo form. The price of the GT is just too stratospheric to be in contention. However, the question was "sexiest 996". Performance aside, assuming all of them have equal performance, which one is the sexiest?
Definitely the C4S, IMHO. The flared nostrils of the turbo go very well with the wide rear hips that are not broken by the turbo intakes. Viewed from the front, the cockpit sits on top of this body that flares out into the wide rear shoulders giving it a racy appearance. The wide rear is further accented by the red strip when viewed from the back, a back that is supported by the wide wheels that are just barely contained by the wide wheel wells. The cosmetic louvers in the rear call attention to those wide hips, sorta like the slits that go up a womens skirt exposing her legs and pointing to a voluptuous rear
.
My best combo would be a C4S body with the GT3 performance.
Upon further reflection...
Just playing around with the camera after applying another coat of Zaino to both cars...
oh and thats a C4S in the reflection, damn sexy I tell ya!
Alright. Here's my favorite pic. I like my women, and my cars, all natural
. No fluff, no make-up, no fake enhancements. Just a bare *** naked C4S in a pose it looks sexiest in: AT SPEED.
All 911's look alike, Steve. They are all "made to look like" one another, or didn't you notice
. Within that basic look, each have distinct character that make them a C2, a C4S, a turbo, a GT2, a GT3. They are all sexy. However, based on that 911 look, the C4S is the sexiest.
BTW, I'm not knocking aftermarket stuff. A lot of them look excellent. I just like au naturale. Again, that's IMHO.
You know now that I think about it, if someone had started a thread about say the Turbo being the sexiest there would have been replies that focused on how much power it has, how fast it is, what it means to have twin turbos, etc. Likewise if someone had started a thread about the C2 being sexy it would have migrated into how it is a "driver's car" with rear wheel drive, or how it has more back seat room, or something of that nature. Meanwhile a GT3 is sexy thread would have quickly changed into how great it's naturally aspirated motor is and again other performance characteristics, the same holds true for the GT2 but simply in a different way.
But none of them would have focused on "Sexy" It seems only the C4S can lay claim to the ultimate in sexiness without careening off into other directions like performance or classic-ness, or what have you.
It seems that the growing length of this thread is simply testiment to the fact that while other 911's have a lot going for them and would surely rate higher than the C4S in other categories, when it comes to Sexy, C4S is king.
C4Sexy! I knew the S had to stand for something...
This thread is the pits ..I've never heard so much s@#$ in my life.....however I must admit the C4S is a lovely looking car second only to the Turbo.
DonnyJ
The C4S is not made to look like the Turbo. It is made so that one can enjoy the Turbo's suspension, brakes, body, and AWD system with a naturally aspirated engine. Hence, the C4S does have the performance of the Turbo when it comes to handling, braking, and traction.
Like many of the C4S owners, I could have bought the Turbo. In fact, it has always been my dream car. But for all-season use in New England, I prefer the naturaly aspirated engine (easier to control in snow, less expensive to maintain, less sensitive to cold weather starts).
Also, as we have determined, the C4S is sexy
Threads like this bring out the ugly and that's not right.
I spend a great deal of time trying to teach my 12yr old son that his cloths labels and toy names reflect nothing more then his personal choices and are no better then anyone else's choices. I don't want him to turn out to be a materialistic snob because of our wealth. I purchased a C2 but could have purchased any PCar. I am trying to teach him how to play in the sand box with diverse people that make chooses for a variety of reasons. But, if he persists to socially better his choice in some social manner or another, he insults the choices of others in the sand box.
All Porsches are sexy performance machines!
TitanL9,
I hope you don't think when I say the C4S is Sexy that I am in some way saying other cars aren't in some way sexy or that no other Porsches are sexy, I'm merely relating that to me, the C4S is the sexiest, again to me.
There is a difference between scales for objective things like say 1/4 mile time where you could say the GT2 has the best stock 1/4 mile time among 996's. vs. say a subjective scale where you say the C4S is sexier than the Turbo, etc.
I hope everyone on this thread realizes that we are talking about a subjective scale and not an objective one, however, that doesn't make the scale any less "real" in a sense that life is filled with both objective and subjective scales and I think it is good that you are trying to teach your children the difference between the two.
We may not care for subjective things or to be judged in a subjective way, but they are a matter of human nature. Take for example Law School - Hey you just scored a 90% on your test, congrats, here is your "C". That's right the law school professor read everyone's essays and then pushed them into a bell curve and on the curve a 90 is a C!
There will be no multiple choice objectively graded tests for you mister and you'll like it!
Perhaps my messages should contain a disclaimer (I'll let the legal dept. get to work on that) which says that the statments in my messages are my own subjective interpretations and not based in any objective facts unless otherwise stated.
As far as bringing out the ugly, I haven't seen anyone mention 928's in this thread have you? DOH!
(That was a joke)
Ok, how about this:
The C2 is sexy like a runway model (long and sleek)
The C4S is sexy like a swimsuit model (curvaceous)
The TT/GTs are sexy like an athlete (fit and muscular)
Moral of the story...they are all sexy, but we all have a preference for one or the other
BTW, I apologize for the one-sided analogy; the ladies can feel free to modify it as needed
.
I agrree with this too, but, There is degree's of performance, I do think that my C4S is a less of a performer than say a GT2 or Turbo or GT3 and some might say a C2. But, I frankly don't care as I bought my C4S for me and I love it and happen to find it to be the sexiest of all 996, Sorry if it offends you (I sure woundn't be offended if you find the C2 the sexiest of all the 996's , because it is one sexy machine and I sure do gawk at all the porshes in the hwy including the C2)
The reflector bar across the back seals it for me. Best looking 911 I have ever seen in my opinion! It has the looks and performance to keep me interested. Nice post! Best wishes - Jay Gratton
