Running Pirelli P-210s, that came off of my Boxster actually.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone living in snow country drive their C2 on a regular basis in the winter? How do 996s compare to BMW 3-series (RWD) in snow?
I live in Park City UT and commute 100 miles a day round trip to Salt Lake City (rise and fall 6000 verticle feet on I-80 per diem). To date, we have had 23 feet of snow in Park City (compared to 21 feet all of last winter). My current daily driver is a 2002 BMW 325Ci Convertible with Blizzak LM-22s. Why the convertible? Well, our summers are 80 degrees and sunny with no humidity from April to November. WRT snow, the BMW is unbelievable with the Blizzaks and is a perfect car for my winter driving style. As the economy has turned around, so has my Porsche budget. I am looking to buy a 996 or 997 to replace the BMW by the end of the year.
With that background, what do you recommend?
Note: Not interested in a C4 because I want to autocross/track the car and prefer the feel of the C2.
Thanks!

I used to own a Bimmer cab and with snows, it was a non-issue in most weather conditions. I now drive an '01 C2 (w/psm) that is no longer my daily driver but I did get caught in barely half an inch of snow once on my summer tires on a very level road. Big mistake. It's like having ice cubes instead of tires sliding on teflon with Mobil 1 in between.
Bottom line: Go for snows and make sure to get PSM on your C2.
Blake:
I have a 99 Carrera 2 convertible that I've driven this winter in Boston, on a factory set of 17" Carrera rims and Dunlop Wintersport M2 snow tires. It's been excellent in the snow, even the blizzard we went through last month. The car has traction control, which helps, although the light rarely came on. I had the chance to drive it back to back with my girlfriend's Audi TT Quattro with Pirelli "Four Seasons" P6 tires in the snow on largely uncleared roads. The Porsche was at least as good as her car, if not better.
BTW, mine might be for sale as I'm interested in a friend's Turbo. It's a triple black cabriolet, 6-speed, 32k miles, Porsche Certified dealer warranty through 10-05, loaded car (full leather interior, supple leather, heated seats, power seats, memory seats, hard top, 18" Carrera 5-spoke rims w/ new P-Zero Rossos, OBC, burl shifter, wheel and e-brake, traction control, hi-fi, CD changer, chrome exhaust tips and crest wheelcaps -- $90k sticker ... and "Autobond" clear protection on the nose). Drop me an email if you're interested.

99 C2 cab
I live down in Salt Lake City and haven't had any trouble. Running Pirelli P-210s, that came off of my Boxster actually. C2 Cab different than Boxster, but with the winter tires it drives just fine in the snow and ice.
I plan on driving my Targa this winter - I have a set of Dunlops M2 Wintersports left over from the 986S - if the 996 Targa drives half as good in the snow as the 986S did, I expect no problems. I have seen videos of drivers in Germany in 6" plus of snow in a 996 on the track, performing drifts and no problems what so ever. remember gents our fathers drove in when all cars were RWD and no traction control.
