Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
if you think you can gain noticeable horsepower by using exhaust, forget it.
Leading evidence: 'Use exhaust, forget it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use exhaust, forget it' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

after reading through numerous posts regarding the PSE, i was wondering how loud is loud. i understand it has the bypass pipe switch but i was hoping it would be gt3 bypass pipes loud. with the switch you could turn it off when cruising around the neighborhood. is the PSE as loud as fabspeed/ghl/insert other exhuast here?
the flipside of the coin, how quiet does the switch make it. will it just be like stock or will be a little throatier/raspier/louder?
i figured if i was gonna spend the extra bucks for the PSE i would wire it and install the plumbing (all myself of course ). extra horses would be good too.
fabspeed claims some horespower gains and the PSE doesn't gain (or lose) anything BUT i've read that to fully reach its potential you must remap the ECU to match the new exhaust. will a remap also benefit the PSE or are you pretty much just making more noise?
can anyone confirm fabspeed's power claims?
thx,
carlos
IMO, PSE is not as loud as Fabspeed, if that gives you some indication. I doubt it's as loud as bypass pipes.
Installing the switch seems like a lot of work. Please do tell us if you are successful.
There are times that the PSE is a little loud for my taste, but it's not worth installing the switch for me.
pse is not loud.
i make sound at laguna seca at 90db or less.
it's not loud enough to get police attention, but people will know you are there. it's quieter than fabspeed or euro pipe. if you think you can gain noticeable horsepower by using exhaust, forget it. different exhaust can make you feel you got more low end or more hi end power, but overall power increase??? i think it's emperor's clothes.
Loud, too loud, it's all relative. PSE is sometimes too loud, sometimes too quiet for me. I've heard my PSE side by side with GHL in a 3.4L, and PSE seems a tad louder. I've not heard Fabspeed, but I have a suspicion all these mufflers sound very simillar. The one that would be LOUD are the straight pipes. These would most likely be too loud for street use, and more likely than not LOSE HP due to the loss of back pressure, unless you do a heck of a lot of mods to go with the straight pipes.
With regards to HP gains, I like mooty's reference to the Emperor's new clothes. The reference is not only cute, it's accurate. I doubt the claims on HP gains, and I doubt the credibility of any of faspeeds claims. I've been to their website, and looked at the video about the airbox with before and after comparisons. With the before, the car was accelrating very gently and therefore very quietly, whereas in the after it was accelerating so hard it almost lost it at the turn up the ramp.
I bought the PSE because it was OEM. I knew it would have no issues with fit, performance, warranty and what have you. I am very happy with it. I did not install the electronics because I don't ever see the need to make it quieter. I am willing to bet a keg of beer that you will never use the quiet switch if you go with PSE.
The DE pilots at our local track say the PSE gives them an extra 4 Km down the backstraight.
I put GHL on, because of $$$ and weight, ( but mostly $$ ) .They are also smaller than stock so they go in easier. They have a nice shiny finish and are beautifully TIG welded. I can't feel any more engine power but I got more mojo.
The P service guys even liked them.
If wasn't so cheap though... Id' get the PSE though on account of its a Porsche thing
