Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well Amigo's It's Official I have confirmed my contract on my new 2003 996 Targa which is fully loaded - I take delivery this coming Saturday I went to see the Black Beauty last Sunday and took her for a test run. What a wonderful performer, graceful and fast - The glass panel roof was too dam cool - I love the natural light that comes in the cabin. The car is Black with an Aero package, Black Supple leather and the new sound system, 18" wheels with PSM and heated seats, power seats (passenger also) with lumbar support. I really fell in love, what I dream car. I will post pictures of my Black Beauty after I pick her up this weekend.

POST 2Original post

Congrats! I also considered the Targa, largely for its coolness!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amigo's After signing the deal on my 2003 Targa my brother informs me that he was talking to a local Porsche dealer and was informed that the Targa's have squeking sounds, some customers complain about. Can anyone confirm or this ? P.S. Here's a picture of my new baby....

POST 5Original post

Extremely nice!! Great to see another 996 Targa!!! I have a 2003 Targe, midnight metallic blue, 18" wheels - love to drive it! Ken

POST 6Original post

I am in the market for a 996 coupe, I'm looking 03 or 04 Lapis Blue with Grey Leather, PSM, Heated/Power seats, 18" wheels. I'm debating between Targa on Coupe myself. I have an 00 328ci with a moonroof and really like the natural light that comes into the cabin. I just wonder why the coupe doesnt have an option for a moonroof... its just a sunroof. Hope you like your targa! Car looks beautiful in the sun, post more pics please! hehe not to be too demanding but I'd like to see how the sunlight lightens up the cabin.

POST 7Original post

I also have a new '03 Targa. Seal Gray with black interior with deviated carpet color. The carpet is a silver (grayish) that really opens up the footwell area and highlights the black interior. I love the openness the Targa top gives the car. Dwayne

POST 8Original post

Congratulations. You'll love the car. One of the unexpected things I love most about the Targa is the feel with the roof closed. The view through the glass roof can be awesome at night with the moon shining through, and my favorite all time experience in the Targa was driving in a violent thunderstorm with lightning strikes flashing overhead through the glass roof, while dry and comfortable inside. POST 9Original post

Some have reported some squeaks, but my service advisor says that they have a lower tolerance for squeaks in the Targa than in a Cab, due to the greater structural rigidity. I had a really bad squeak shortly after I got the car, but the dealer managed to tighten everything up and the car has been quite tight since. The two stops at the corner of the hatchback piece of glass are adjustable by screwing them in and out (like the stops on the trunk lid). I didn't realize this initially. Some adjustment may be needed after the car has a few miles on it. Very easy to do...

POST 10Original post

i have also heard of squeeking as a targa problem, but as previously said, it is probably something that can be adjusted down-open air motoring always provides some noises. your car is beautiful-enjoy it.

POST 11Original post

What a beauty! I hope it warms so you can enjoy it and I look forward to seeing it on the road.

POST 12Original post

It sure is nice looking. love to see more pics. I like those wheels. Best of luck with it and enjoy, but not tonight, decent snow coming down.

POST 13Original post

Wow, that is pretty. I may need to go Targa in the future if the 998's are a bit wider in the rear than the 996 Targa!

POST 16Original post

Beautiful car, congrats. If she does squeek a little, the dealer should be able to fix it under warranty without a problem...

POST 17Original post

Very Sweet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Would it be too much to ask the price? Good Luck with her.. Zub

POST 18Original post

That is a really nice car. Love the aerokit, makes it a lot more aggressive. I have a 996 cab but I'm looking at the Targa as a possible replacement. I had a 993 Targa before and I loved it. I was talking to my dealer here in Paris about that and he explained that even though the 996 Targa was based on the Coupe to silence those 993 Targa critics that said the car was too squeaky, it's more of a marketing ploy than anything else and yes... the 996 Targa does squeak! I never found the squeak to be a problem in the 993 Targa anyway. People who buy Targas shouldn't expect Coupe levels of silence anyway. And that unique feeling of having an open car but of being fully protected from the elements is unique IMO. Please post side and rear pictures of your car so we can admire it in more detail.

POST 19Original post

I have a new (2000 miles) 2003 Arctic Silver Targa with 18" rims, PSM, mats and colored wheel crests, for all practical purposes its a "stripper." But what a sweet ride. Love the open feeling all the glass gives. Just one small beef, when the roof is open there is a lot of wind noise. Anybody else having the wind noise? In addition, there are only about 300 of these cars in the states so you probably wont park next to one...

POST 20Original post

Thegman, I haven't found the wind noise to be a big problem, but then I haven't really driven my car much in the last 2 months, so maybe my memory is rusty. Part of the beauty of the Targa is that even if the wind noise is a problem, a touch of the button at any speed will close things up to take a phone call or whatever.

POST 21Original post

First, Congrats on the Targa, I have a 02' white/blk glass top and love every open moment in it.. As far as wind noise, I have not experienced this issue. When I go over bumps or up drive ways she gives me a creak every now and then... I figured this is due to a few track days at the local tracks.. anyhoot i plan on having her looked at on my next visit to the local dealer to have my RMS replaced . Besides the dreaded RMS leaking I still love cruising semi-topless... David

POST 22Original post

Targas rule! I love the uniqueness, especially with my turbo nose and GT3 side skirts..no one knows what the hell it is...mine "squeaks" once and awhile...so what....it a freaking sports car, they squeak occasionally..enjoy your very unique porsche. Cheers
