Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

50 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 2Original post

I'm Catholic, but I don't feel the need to broadcast that to the world, regardless of what kind of car I have. My whole family has a thing about not putting bumper stickers/embelishments on their cars.

POST 3Original post

OK, you guys got me. I am not Catholic and I have never seen a fish on the back of a car. What's the story here?

POST 4Original post

I think they can mean a couple things: 1)i think the plane fish signifies Jesus as a "fisher of men" 2)Some times you will see the fish with legs and inside the fish it says "Darwin"... I think this is the evolutionist answer to the Jesus lovers.

POST 5Original post

Thnxs Jason. But what the hell has it got to do with 996s. Fish, no fish, canedelack soup, WTF

POST 6Original post

Here ya go... People put these on the back of their cars. It's funny cause it's true.

POST 7Original post

We have a volvo, but no fish.... We do believe in the higher power however...

POST 9Original post

Butzi Porsche, who probably was a Catholic, was secretly inspired by the symbol of the fish and used it as a template for the side elevation of the original 911. Later the full top half of the fish symbol was used as the insiration for the 2.7 RS. In the past people thought that car had a "duck-tail" spoiler, but as you now know the truth was more fish than fowl...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You surprise me Scouser they are all over the UK DonnyJ

POST 11Original post

Yes seen them. i wouldn't say they are all over the UK but I have seen them. Never did know what it meant or payed any attention to it. So, do the manufacturers put this on or is it put on by owners. And does it really symbolise some some sort of christian faith thing? What's the point? Is it trying to say the driver is a Mormon or something?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's born again Christians and a faith thing

POST 13Original post

the fish is an ancient symbol for christ that dates back to the catacombs and the roman persecution of christians. it is a play on words from the greek words for fish and christ are similiar. that said, i think it looks silly on any car, even a volvo.

POST 14Original post

I agree. That's why I have a piece of the True Cross nailed to the back on my p-car.

POST 15Original post

HI-Larious RIAD.....you might be going to hell now, but hilarious!

POST 16Original post

Which is worse the Jesus fish or the Baby on Board stick-on? Or the dreaded RAINBOW on the back glass???

POST 18Original post

Hey! but think about it. Who would ever tailgate a guy with a rainbow sticker?

POST 19Original post

Might be? Being raised Roman Catholic almost guarantees it.

POST 20Original post

One thing you never see with the fish is the "How am I driving? Call 1-800 EAT S***" bumper sticker. You also never see that sticker on a Porsche...I wonder why. AS

POST 21Original post

This is what I have on the back of my car: http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/prod...linux-fish.gif My wife got it for me and I figured I could pull it off after a couple of months - I've still not got round to it...

POST 22Original post

That would be really funny if it wasn't so disturbing... haha. FREE BSD!!

POST 23Original post

That's cool. I would use it just cos it says Linux. A FreeBSD one would be better though :-) I have many badges along those lines but none that go on the back of cars. This is my favourite. It's Unix related. I wonder if either of you know what it inferrs?

POST 24Original post

I got these for X-mas and I just havn't had the time get them mounted! Anyone else running these?

POST 25Original post

Volvo ? Are you kidding ? Around here in Northern California, the " organics or bust " Volvo crowd typically has the "Darwin " emblem on the trunk . See the " fish " more on cars like Accord or Camry.

POST 26Original post

Round here (Austin Texas) the fishies are all over Suburbans and minivans. Of course, every third vehicle is a Suburban. I hate them, I realize that people can express themselves how they choose, but I just wish they wouldn't feel the need to scream their religion to everybody. Most irritating are the ones where they have one or two of the big fishes, and a whole slew of the little ones to indicate their family. C. (new 911 owner)

POST 27Original post

Scouser - Having worked with Unix code in the past, my brain is clearly contaminated to the point that any code I ever write in the future is based upon the Unix code I've seen before. Therefore, all my base are still belong to USL...or SCO....I can't remember which.

POST 28Original post

944 Fanatic. You say you have worked with the Magic in the past. Thus you too are contaminated I too am an old time Unix (USL) hack. Maybe we know each other. Ever heard of The Magic Garden Explained?

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I too am also am a computer geek in a former life - 3d graphics..... I used to luv the smell of photoshop in the morning I like the 2 fish and all the little ones idea , havn't seen that in the UK. I imagine alot of these fish worshipers are vegetarians it doesn't make sense to me. Theres alot to be said for it ...it's very healthy........Come and sit down dear ..did you have a good day at work have some bean sprouts...did you cry much at work today...Honestly it's true vegetarians cry more than meat eaters...why is this??

POST 30Original post

who cares... is your life so provincial that an emblem on the back of another persons car enough to elicit this kind of response... I have an idea..... you drive a Porsche... nail you right foot to the floor and be saved !!!!! Porsche that is what I would say if I was ever stupid enough to defile my 996 with such crap art...

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One mans defillation is anothers beauty

POST 32Original post

If you are going to quote master Sanford .. at least give Fred the credit...

POST 33Original post

Oh and defillation is not a word... there is defilition but that means something about abstracting a child and a parent... kinda like with sheep... but not sure if that intrests you... <shrug>

POST 34Original post

or that may be defiliation ... I am really high on cough syrup right now...

POST 35Original post

Hmmmm, NyQuil... that will certainly help you see fish on the back of people's car. With enough you might even find religion!! Doesn't really matter which one

POST 36Original post

i never thought we'de get so many responses to such a silly topic!

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"i never thought we'de get so many responses to such a silly topic! " Having a fish on the back of your car in some cases defines and characterises your personal/religious philosophy on life ...very important especially when they are dying. This is a very very serious discussion DonnyJ(named after the thirteenth disciple)

POST 38Original post

If I am not mistaken, aren't we all dying a little bit every day? Oh, and TGIF!

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

True but you know what I mean...Sharpish, quickly, immenantly, at deaths door, on morpine, walking in Palestine with a placard that says "I love Isreal" DonnyJ

POST 40Original post

Guys do you have to do this?? Isnt this becoming ethnic? Come on... Waz

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nope it isn't....it's just an true analogy. Waz996 why do Porsche owners not have fishes on the back of their cars? why?

POST 42Original post

Because most Porsche owners have a higher level of intelligence than your regular Honda or Toyota owner and don't buy the fallacy of religion! Also those little fish emblems are butt ugly and have no place on such fine machinery.Believe what you want, but you don't have to advertise your spiritual leanings to the world.

POST 43Original post

Wait a minute? This is spiritual??? I thought it was an advertisement for BASS MASTERS???? Shows what I know...

POST 45Original post

You guys worry me. I'm going outside right now and check if there's any extra chrome on my baby

POST 46Original post

This thread reminds me that I have to take this down... it is 1/09/04.... http://www.pbase.com/image/24979112

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hence the phrase "jesus he's gone and bought a Porsche.... bloody Mary"

POST 48Original post

Haha......LOL Riad that is classic....who needs a silly fish?

POST 49Original post

SELF ESTEEM. that's gotta be it. people with high self esteem are typically successful and afford porsches. (oh dear) people with low self esteem typically put lots of bumper stickers on their cars, dress up their best to get noticed at church, etc. i grew up going to church everytime the doors were open and i've never seen so many low self esteem individuals. ever notice the cars with the loudspeaker on top and a religious sermon playing loudly???? the guy finger paids scripture on his entire auto...tell me he doesn't feel a need to prove to someone something. never seen a porsche with a loudspeaker on top or a cross sticking out the hood.

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
