When the dealer took it this time they removed the entire cover and found that the problem was due to the factory placing too MUCH sealant in there and as the bolts were tightened, the sealant spread out too thinly around the bolts causing the minor leaks.

Suggestion

Now, having this information any extra tightening over said amount would possibly lead to a leak IMO.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Background: Discovered minor oil leaks (drops) near right rear of car a few months ago. Knew from comments on this great forum that it was probably cam cover bolts leaking ... not the infamous RMS. Service department concurred and tightened bolts. No problems for a couple of weeks. Then I noticed a few more drops; not many but there aren't supposed to be any so I took the car back in. Service then replaced bolts and gave it back and again no oil droplets on garage floor ... for a few more weeks. When the dealer took it this time they removed the entire cover and found that the problem was due to the factory placing too MUCH sealant in there and as the bolts were tightened, the sealant spread out too thinly around the bolts causing the minor leaks. Hopefully it now completely corrected. Time will tell. Who else has this happened to? What was the final resolution? TIA

POST 2Original post

I just had my car in for a suspected cam cover leak, turned out to be the oil pressure sending unit leaking onto the cam cover no big deal. But in researching the cam cover install in my service manual, Porsche is very specific about how much silicone sealant to use and the torque specs. There are about 23 small bolts that are torqued in a specific order to 10ft/lb I believe. Now, having this information any extra tightening over said amount would possibly lead to a leak IMO.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
