Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

-Replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals and ground to the chassis (the old battery seemed fine but it wasnt factory spec so I put in a new factory spec Varta)
Leading evidence: 'Clean terminals and ground' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean terminals and ground' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I leave mine unlocked in the garage and I use a battery maintainer plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

I was thinking of trying changing the brake light switch, since some say that this fixed the light issues for them but not sure if these symptoms point to the same thing.

While the above two fixes had already worked, i decided to also change the starter to a new OEM one which i got at a very good price and that solved the constant drain issue coming from there.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Been having these intermittent issues on my C4S since i got it.
If i leave it parked for more than say 4 days, when i go to start it:
1. I cant unlock it with the key button (i know this is apparently sleep mode and you have to try open it with the key but when i do this the alarm goes off)
2. The PSM and ABS error lights will come on on first startup, but if i turn off the car off and start it again the errors are gone and they wont show up again until the car is parked off for another 4+ days
Things ive tried:
-Replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals and ground to the chassis (the old battery seemed fine but it wasnt factory spec so I put in a new factory spec Varta)
-Leaving the car unlocked, this helps prevent the alarm from going off, but the lights for the PSM and ABS will still come on.

Everything else on the car seems to work fine, brakes are in good condition and the car was recently serviced at the dealership last month.
The dealership mechanic told me not to leave the car unlocked as that will actually drain the battery faster ?! Not sure if thats true or not.
Unlocking the car after several days will result in the alarm triggering if you turn the key the wrong way in the lock, or if you fail to put the key in the ignition within I think 10 seconds after opening the door. I've experienced both happening. Can't help with the PSM/ABS error lights.
Unlocked the car stays in the "ready" mode. Locked the car goes to sleep and powers down. Unlocked, after approximately 5 days undisturbed, the car goes to sleep. I leave mine unlocked in the garage and I use a battery maintainer plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.
Im going to try the brake light switch replacement to see if that helps with the PSM/ABS errors on startup after the car was in sleep mode. Some 996 owners seem to think it could work.
Your issues must be a frustration. I religiously keep my 4S on a tender after noticing the first slow start. If a tender is possible, I trust the Deltran brand.
I just wanted to give an update to this thread. The issue with the traction/abs error was the brake light switch, the plunger inside was sticking when parked off and it needed a few presses of the brake pedal to get it moving freely. With the new switch i havent had the issue in months.
Regarding the alarm and the sleep mode, the problem there was the mechanism for pulling the window down when you open the door. Basically that little cam that operates the mechanism had worn down and the window was "twitching" sometimes and this was causing issues with the car trying to sleep.
Lastly, we found a constant drain coming from the starter motor even when the car was off and no key in. While the above two fixes had already worked, i decided to also change the starter to a new OEM one which i got at a very good price and that solved the constant drain issue coming from there. I can park the car for much longer now without a charger without the car just dying after like 4/5 days
