It is a very clean car, it does have some stone chips on the front, but it is just normal wear and tear.

Suggestion

One thing you might try doing (if your dealer is amenable) is selling the car privately but running the sale through the dealer to save the sales tax on the trade in value.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am thinking of selling my car to upgrade to a gt3, what do you think my car is worth private party and trade in? It is a 6 speed 2001 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. It has 30k miles on it with all records. It is a very clean car, it does have some stone chips on the front, but it is just normal wear and tear. It is lapis blue with grey full leather interior. It has the aluminum package on it including exhaust tip, shifter and ebrake. It also has 18 inch sport design wheels. It has gt3 sideskirts and factory hard top. Thanks in advance for the input.

POST 2Original post

private party i'd say it's worth 50K, 40K for trade in. 996 prices are really lousy right now!

POST 3Original post

your mileage is a bit high for a porsche, but i would do the same-drive it and enjoy it. i think that your car is worth a bit more than teflon says, probably about 5k more. happy new year.

POST 4Original post

I recently purchased a black 2000 cabriolet 6 speed Carrera at auction (through a dealer friend) for $39500. The car is very nice and documented and has 50K. We looked for a while and you cannot touch a 2001 Cab (or coupe) at auction for 40K. MY car was considered a steal compared to others on the auction reports that recently sold in the 41-43K range with similar miles. A 2001 Cab at auction has to run in the mid-upper 40's.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did not think that prices of 996's were this low. I was hoping to get in the 60's for it. Is this totally out of the question?

POST 6Original post

for trade in, it would be tough, probably 50-55k would be about the best. to a private party, it depends what you can convince them to pay.

POST 7Original post

Well i hate to say it but there is no way you will see sixties, from all the cars i see selling here....your car would have got 48k 50k MAX

POST 8Original post

One thing you might try doing (if your dealer is amenable) is selling the car privately but running the sale through the dealer to save the sales tax on the trade in value. I had a '99 C2 that I was able to sell privately for $45,000 which was $5000 more than the dealer offered when I was trading up to a 2002 cab. I signed the contract with the buyer and took his deposit then took my car and gave it and the contract and the deposit to the dealer. He credited me $45,000 on my purchase of my '02 which saved me about $3.500 in sales tax. My buyer then completed the purchase with the dealer. Some dealers will be helpful in this regard even though it increases their paperwork.
