If the lights self level, is it as simple as disconnecting the old halogen lights and poping in the litronics?

I don't recall ever seeing anyone mentioning retrofitting those parts, and the required wiring harness additions, when changing from conventional to litronic lights.

Suggestion

The Porsche system when installed as a production option definitely does not use a trunk mounted level sensor (as I posted above they use a sensor on both the front and rear suspension).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone successfully upgraded their MY03 996 with litronic lights? I have seen 2 different statements 1. Aftermarket litronics will not have the self-levelling feature. 2. The ballast for the self levelling feature are built into the light module, so they will self level. If the lights self level, is it as simple as disconnecting the old halogen lights and poping in the litronics? Or is there special wiring/electrical work that needs to be done? any thoughts? thanks Chucksta

POST 2Original post

There are sensors installed on the front & rear suspension for the litronic self leveling system. I don't recall ever seeing anyone mentioning retrofitting those parts, and the required wiring harness additions, when changing from conventional to litronic lights. I believe the term "ballast" you've seen mentioned refers to a high voltage ignition system for the lights (kind of like a ballast for neon lights in household applications) and has nothing to do with the levelling system. Go look on renntech.org in the DIY forum and I think you'll see that MY02 and later 996s are not a simple bolt-in upgrade as with earlier cars.

POST 3Original post

My 99 had aftermarket HIDS with a leveling module located inside the trunk.

POST 4Original post

Juan: What aftermarket HID system did you have? The Porsche system when installed as a production option definitely does not use a trunk mounted level sensor (as I posted above they use a sensor on both the front and rear suspension). It's clear from Chucksta's post he was getting confusing info that the high energy ignition ballast was a level sensor which is not correct.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
