My exact words to him were "I heard (on Rennlist) that Porsche will replace the RMS out of warranty as a goodwill gesture due to it being a known defect" He said, we will check it out and if in fact it is the RMS porsche will replace it free of charge.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would like to hear what your experience was w/the dealer. I found mine was leaking today and was told that Porshce is no longer offering to help offset the cost for out of warranty repairs. Also, was told since I am the 2nd owner their is no "Porsche loyalty" on their behalf and my request will be denied. Suggestions please!
Mine was done out of warranty in October of this year. 28,000 miles and warranty ran out in May 2003. When I went to the dealer the service manager said he would have to check with the Porsche factory rep and get back to me. A few days later I stopped in and as luck would have it the factory rep was on site. My exact words to him were "I heard (on Rennlist) that Porsche will replace the RMS out of warranty as a goodwill gesture due to it being a known defect" He said, we will check it out and if in fact it is the RMS porsche will replace it free of charge. Turned out it was the RMS and was fixed within a week, no charge to me. I would suggest you get in touch with the factory rep if you get no satisfaction with the service manager at the dealership. If that doesn't work I would start writing writing letters to Porsche North America. My local rep stated that Porsche tries very hard to satisfy their customers. BTW, I bought my car second hand off e-bay from a gent in California. I live on the east coast so I have to say the dealership was very nice about it for a car that was not purchased from them. They have also been very helpful with other small problems I have had with the car and one large one. I have the aerokit and the spoiler cracked and they replaced it free of charge also. Supposedly a $4700.00 job. The deck lid and spoiler are all one piece. Some dealerships don't want to be bothered with you if you didn't purchase the car at their place. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Be persistant.
I am about to have mine done for the 2nd time in two months "out of warranty".
If your car has a full Porsche Dealer Service history your best bet is to call the Porsche Customer relations officer. Cry to him that the car has been serviced in the network and is up to date with services. He should bend. But he is likely to ask you to contribute 50% of cost of something of that nature. Also high mileage cars may put them off.
If your car has no history then I think you have no legs to stand on.
Best of luck with it. Oh BTW, get your clutch done too at the same time. A must!
I crossed posted with 996 Aero. Having read his post I echo everything he said. Be persistent. The idea is to try all avenues but "without" pissing them off. They aim to please and they usually come thru with some solution.
My main concern is that this RMS problem should not be happening with
$80,000 cars at low mileage.
Best of luck again.
I have had the car for 38 days. Bought from Porsche dealership out of state who took the car in on trade for a 40th year 911. All service work had been done by them. It had 9650 miles on it when I went for a test drive. I met w/the service manager and looked him in the eye and asked if the RMS was leaking. He said no. I have been trying to get in for a "check up" w/local dealer since purchase. The car has 10441 miles on the clock. The RMS is not leaking enough to drip, but you could easily see while up on the host where the oil is seaping from. Obviously, I will be calling the dealer where I bought the vehicle 1st thing tomorrow morning. We will see how they respond. Thanks as always for the advice.
On such a low mileag car, and thru a dealership after only 38 days, I would be "extremely" surprised if they don't fix it under warranty. Besides, I thought you guys in the US are protected by this thing called a "lemmon law".
