After 3 months of slithering around on damp roads they were swapped for Pirreli P Zeros on a new set of Carrera 5 spoke rims.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyonr know the thinking behind Porsche supplying TT and C4S with Pirelli or Continental tires only? It seems on these cars a better tire would have been spcified such as a Michelin.
I have a 01 C4, but I purchased the Turbo rims because the are designed so much better than the stock 911 rims. The tires actually stick out passed the rim to protect the rim, not to mention they look soo much nicer.
Anyway, what are you basing your statement on? In what conditions are each tire better than the other?
Rob
David,
Porsche does not use only those 2 brands, so ur info is not right. i think they switch brand every 2~3 month during production season. i've seen at least 4 brands on the C4S and Turbo. i picked me my TT 3 month ago with Michelin Pilot Sport Rib (only supply to our car). also i've seen SO2 A on C4S 2 month ago on a 04 car. personally i like the Conti's ride (02C4S) better than the PS Rib i have now. they are not bad tires at all.
Sorry, I was basing my question on an apparently false assumption. The March 2002 Christophorus stated that these two brands were the only ones available for the TT and C4S. Obviously that has changed. I've always thought Mich and Brdgstone were better tires when I read Tire Rack reports. That may not necessarily be the case.
You are correct. The Michelin Pilot Sport Rib and the Bridgestone S-02A have yet to make the Porsche approved list in Christophorus of tires for the C4S and Turbo. But, the factory has been installing them since several months ago this year. Both are excellent tires and you can't go wrong with either.
I do not like my Contis. They only have 1,600 miles if anyone wants to buy them. I am going with Pilot Sport which is currenty on my other two cars. Traction and grip seems much better and more predictable than the Contis. Then again, my C2 suspension is not exactly the same as my other cars. Maybe, I will be no happier with the Pilots on this car, but I love the P{ilots on my other cars. BTW, I have used S03s, Summitoma, and P-Zeros in the past and the Pilots are my favorites. The SO3s are pretty good though. I like the looks of the P-Zero best.
First, S-03 is NOT superior to S-02 in terms of maximum performance. Second, the tire in question is the
S-02A
which has nothing in common with either of the above. A much better tire than both in every respect.
So your saying the S02 is better than the Pole Position S03s. Tire rack and the reviews seem to indicate the S03s are better. It is all hearsay for me as I never owned a set. I asked about S02s a while back and was told get the S03s, because they were a much better tire.
My son went thru a set of SO 2s' and bought a set of SO3s. He said the SO3s are no where as good as the o2s. He said the cornering feel on the so3s is so different he's thinking of buying O2s and trying to sell the O3s.
They are louder in road noise as well. I haven't used O3s so I don't know. My favorite tire has been Mich Pilot Sports so far. My C4S has Pirelli P-Zeros. When they're shot, I'll change to Michelin.
My Carrera 2 was supplied with 18" SO2s, slightly worn. After 3 months of slithering around on damp roads they were swapped for Pirreli P Zeros on a new set of Carrera 5 spoke rims. A lot quieter and plenty more controllable grip. A big improvement. Pity the weather here can't do the same!
Same thinking as other cars that supply specific OEM tires: Cost. If they stick to one brand, tires "specially designed for the car", economics of scale make a big diff in cost. One can also look at the fact that there are two OEM brands, and say that it's a good thing there is a choice, or one can be cynical and say that it's just another way to cut cost by making two companies compete for the OEM business.
Regardless, there are several brands available aside from the OEM Conti's and P-Zeros for the C4S/TT. There's Yoko, Mich and Bridgestone. All good tires and roughly equivalent, IMHO. Some prefer one over the other, same way I like Coke and others like Pepsi. I like my P-Zeros, and don't think any of the others, including the Michelins, are any better.
BTW, I just checked Tire Rack. The Mich Pilot Sport Rib is not available in the C4S rear sizes. Only the Mich Pilot Sport PS2. Anyone know what tires come with the GT3?
Hey riad how the heck are the rears not sticking out with the oem turbo offset. I put a set of those on the back of my 99 just to check and I would have needed curb feelers-????
