Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you find a brand and specific model tire that you are happy with you will only have to replace the rear tires with the exact same model every 10-15k (not counting for track days).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a lot of road noise from my S-02's and would like to get something that is quieter but still has good grip. My S-02s have about 30% tread left so that is one reason they are loud. And the fact, the body resonates with a different type of road noise because of the tiresbut thats not the subject here.
Looking for recommendations. Would S-03s be any better? Pilot Sports are available in my size too.
Im limited in size simply because the rears are 285/30-18. Fronts I can get in just about anything (225/40-18) so thats no big deal. Is road noise typical for the 996 with this tire size?
I've had the OEM Continental Sport Contacts and Bridgestone S0-3's on my car. The S0-3's are much quieter than the Conti's were. I can't compare the S0-2's to the S03's, but personally I have no complaints regarding tire noise with the S03's.
We have the ContiSport2's on my C2 and the Michelin Pilot Sports on the C4 Cab. I actually am reasonably happy with both for OEM tires. The Pilot Sports are definately a more performance oriented tire. One of my favorite tires for the 996 has to be the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. About a year and a half ago I was introduced to them at the Audi Quattro Challenge event, which featured all the track cars shod in P-Zero Rosso's. I really liked them, and plan on picking up a set whenever my rear tires start to wear. Other than those I have always been relatively happy with the S03-PP. They are great tires, though I am currently leaning towards the P-zero's.
In terms of tires for the 996 I would advise you to find a set of four tires which you truly like and will be happy with in the long run. The reason being is that your rear tires will need to be replaced my more often than your front tires. If you find a brand and specific model tire that you are happy with you will only have to replace the rear tires with the exact same model every 10-15k (not counting for track days). You can probably get double that mileage from your front tires. On the other hand if you constantly switch brands/models of tires then you'll end up replacing all four rather frequently.
