Last I checked, however, you could get a policy from Great American Insurance (who I have no connection with - but know to be financially sound and an admitted carrier in CA and most other states) for my 00' 996 for about $2,500 (about the same price being charge by the risk retention pools).

I certainly hope people start getting their head screwed on right when it comes to these extended warranty companies, as I think I'll have a coronary if I have to read another post from someone consdering a policy from a risk retantion pool without even checking price and availability from the admitted insurance carrier market first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Assuming a good policy can be had for a reasonable price (i was quoted approx $2,800 with a $100 per visit deductible for my '99 C2 w/40k miles for an additional 4 years and 100K miles total, whichever comes first) is it worth doing this? i mean, what are everyone's expectations in regard to the odds of spending more than the cost of the policy in repairs over 4 years and 60,000 miles? this obviously works statistically for the insurance cos to underwrite the risk, but i don't have a good read as to the typical cost of repairs, nor of their frequency. are there any longer term p-car owners out there that can provide some color on this subject? a large number of horror stories would probably reinforce my inclination to go ahead and sign-up. thanks for sharing your thoughts david by the way, Jeff 25 mentioned in a previous thread that state regulated insurance cos were the way to go here, see attached post of 7/23 below: "That must be the misimpression that is out there. Last I checked, however, you could get a policy from Great American Insurance (who I have no connection with - but know to be financially sound and an admitted carrier in CA and most other states) for my 00' 996 for about $2,500 (about the same price being charge by the risk retention pools). No connection here as well, but here is the number for one agent who offers the Great American policy and maybe policies from other admitted carriers. [phone removed] Their website is www.aawarranty.com I certainly hope people start getting their head screwed on right when it comes to these extended warranty companies, as I think I'll have a coronary if I have to read another post from someone consdering a policy from a risk retantion pool without even checking price and availability from the admitted insurance carrier market first.
