Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I try not to follow the oil threads but I swear I saw people saying they were running 15w50 in their cars.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

FWIW. Doing my oil change and went to walmart looking for 5w40. They don't have any but they had 5 qt bottles of Mobil 1 0w40 and 15w50.
Never saw the 15w50 there before.
You need to get out more.
And they do have a Mobil 5W40. It's the Turbo Diesel product. Only in the big jugs at Walmart. Don't put the 15W50 in your 996 unless you drain the coolant first and convert to an aircooled Porsche.
I do need to get out more.
I try not to follow the oil threads but I swear I saw people saying they were running 15w50 in their cars. I saw the 5w40 but the word diesel scared me. They had no other 5w40 at walmart.
So if I drain the coolant I will have an air cooled Porsche?
My Indie likes M1 15-50 for older cars (including water cooled) but since you have a new motor I'd stick with 0-40 or 5-40. Unless one's motor is using a lot of oil I don't think you really want or need the heavier weight.
Maybe you are confusing Mobil 1 15w-50 with Mobil 1 5w-50. They do not sell the latter at Walmart. 5w-50 seems to be a recommendation from some experienced and knowledgeable members over at the 996TT forum, at least for the turbo engines.

Heh. Both of these were awesome replies. In reality, the car would be air-cooled permanently, but it would only
require
cooling for a short period of time.
15w50 synthetic oil is listed in my 2004 owners manual for temps above 65 degrees. As a plus, it has 1300 ppm of zinc, the lower viscosity M1 oils have 1100 ppm zinc.

That's where I get Rotella T6 5w40, significantly lower price than other stores, even with sale prices. Also, most Walmarts have it available by the quart, which is nice vs. buying two 4qt jugs for vehicles that need 5-6qts.
