Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2003 996 c4 i am finding that 3rd gear is sloppy and sometimes hard to find. i was thinking it was synchros but now i'm beginning to wonder if its simply some shifter adjustment. is that possible? the shifter seems to want to go more toward 5th gear and gets sort of stuck there if i'm not careful. any ideas?

POST 2Original post

Check the cable mounts on the side of the trans. They can get loose and let the cable "slide" out of the bracket, especially after trans r&r. Many folks zip tie them in.
