I intend to hook up a Motive PB filled with Motul 600 fluid and then actuate each (ABS) circuit with the appropriate bleeder valves at the proper order of bleeding and collect as per procedure in this thread.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

According to the shop manual, when bleeding brakes on cars with PSM you should have a bleeding pressure of 2.0 Bar (29.4 PSI). Is it necessary to use this much pressure? I have a motive bleeder. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

You need the Durametric (latest version) or the Porsche system to bleed the ABS.

POST 3Original post

according to Rentech... you should NOT go over 20psi.... anything over can cause damage. PSM is more of the system.... but are you talking about ABS?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, i am talking about PSM, I am just reading the shop manual and it state scars w/o PSM should be bled with 1.5 bar of pressure and cars with PSM should be bled with 2.0bar of pressure. I read the rentech DIY as well and thats why I was asking. If everyone has done it using under 20psi that is the route I will go. Thanks.

POST 5Original post

Ive had no prob bleeding the brake lines at 20 psi... per rentech diy. But I have done mine in warmer weather... dont know how the fluid reacts in the cold....

POST 6Original post

I bleed all mine at 1.5bar or less (usually 1-1.25bar) regardless of PSM or not. I have zero issues having the fluid flow properly. Would be interested to hear to reasoning for bumping up to 2bar on PSM cars. Can you scan and post the shop manual page(s) you are talking about?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are a couple of screen shots.

POST 8Original post

Interesting, and it also shows a different sequence of bleeding when getting to the fronts. Very odd. Thanks for posting.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 8301778

Sequence to the front is from left to front based on the SM, how is that different from what it is normally done?

POST 10Original post

Robin, look a little more closely. They show RR/RL/FR/FL for the cars without PSM ...and........RR/RL/FL/FR for the cars with PSM

POST 11Original post

On my '99 C4 with PSM I bled RR, LR, RF and LF in that order. LF silver caliper turned gold after the 1st DE last year. Related?

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 8302740

possibly related more from your headlights....

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 8302186

You are right! I did it the old fashion way many times, didn't notice any difference with my brake performance. But now I think about it my PSM does not react as fast as before... maybe 0.01 seconds slower. :P

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 8302943

I think your right......still makes me wonder though. Why would the sequence be different with PSM?

POST 15Original post

Alight, anybody with the reason why it is different between psm/non-psm cars please chime in!

POST 16Original post

When you are bleeding the PSM circuit (using Durametric or a PST2) you open the right front valve to bleed PSM. On non-PSM cars (ABS only) you open the right rear valve.

POST 17Original post

So this would be irrelevant to those of use that just use a Motive Bleeder without a Durametric or PST2?

POST 18Original post

If you are not running the ABS/PSM pump using Durametric or a PST2 then - yes it is irrelevant. If you have replaced ABS or PSM components or had a brake line open to air - then you do need to bleed the ABS/PSM. Otherwise - no.

POST 19Original post

Brake line open to air synonymous with bleeding or from removing the hard line from the caliper? Thanks Loren!

POST 20Original post

Removing the any hard line or replacing a hoses or lines.

POST 22Original post

I just purchased the Durametric tool to bleed the brakes and ABS/PSM lines of a 2010 GT3. Would someone please point me to a detailed procedure for doing this? thanks in advance. I intend to hook up a Motive PB filled with Motul 600 fluid and then actuate each (ABS) circuit with the appropriate bleeder valves at the proper order of bleeding and collect as per procedure in this thread.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 8306664

What if you accidentally pulled in air from the master cylinder of a PSM/ABS 2004 C2 when your wife was overwatching the front of the master fluid resevoir and it was showing good fluid level, while you were cracking bleed nipples at the rear caliper, just as the back half of the resevoir drew down to air? Not that it happened to me... Who the hell put a partition in the fluid resevoir that would allow this facade and dupe an unsuspecting shade tree meachanic (OK, magazine reading significant other)? Damn Porsche has to be different even in their fluid resevoirs?! OK, lesson learned, so after bleeding that caliper till all the air was out and doing a full reperformance of all circuits with another liter of fluid just in case, does the ABS/PSM need special bleeding with Durametric or is it good? Theoretically speaking that is...

POST 25Original post

If the brakes feel normal, you got the air out. If the pedal feels like mush, you didn't get the air out. *HINT* Start the car in the driveway and try this out with the e-brake set, rather than, say, merging onto the freeway before verifying that the brakes are functional. If you're really paranoid, switch brake fluid colors and bleed until you see new color at all corners plus the clutch. You might want to consider a different / more engaged assistant.

POST 26Original post

Bingo... wifey was apparently on her union break after already assiting me with 3 other rides on our annual "bleed the fleet" day... second only in popularity to "tax deduction documentation day." Brakes are firm as morning wood... I'll consider it bled! The proceedure for bleeding the clutch is unlike any other vehicle I've ever have had either (although I've always done the pump and bleed with assistant and not with a Motive style pressure bleeder). Clutch pedal depressed, turn in circles three times, drink a beer and do the hokey pokey... this car is entertaining to service! FSM = A MUST HAVE!

POST 27Original post

I rebuilt the two front calipers on my 01 986. Bled the system with a Motive bleeder, brakes were a little mushy. I re-bled them with a Mity-Vac, still mushy. I am doing the rears very soon. Do I need to invest in a Durametric? It seems the consensus answer here is yes.

POST 28Original post

I am curious to hear the proper process when using the durametric ? Do I start the durametric abs pump before I do the bleeding ? leave it on while bleading ? I mean how does it work when using the durametric to activate the ABS ?
