Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excited to get the ims /rms repair and would like to do the aos as well. But was quoted and additional $550 for the aos and $560 for the single o2 sensor that is out... Just thought the aos repair would be less since the engine is out; and the single o2 seems a little high... Thanks for any input...

POST 2Original post

I'm sure those prices come with lube, it better be.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah. thought that was kind of high for the extra two upgrades but wanted to ask the forum first. from what i read while doing the ims / rms the aos should cost less than an hour plus the part... but how about the one o2 with the job?

POST 4Original post

A little high? 560 per o2 sensor? I'd say your Indy is smoking kush. Replace it yourself.

POST 5Original post

that seems very high. The shop I went with installed a new AOS without any additional labor when doing the IMS/ RMS job. By the way... TWIN!!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10819417

actually a quote from the dealership!

POST 7Original post

Wow, a really high estimate for work done by the dealer. Real shocker. Any reason you aren't using an Indy for your 12+ year old car? The general consensus is that Indies are better equipped to work on the older models than the dealer, plus normally significantly cheaper.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 10819489

My friend, retail that part is $120 look elsewhere and find similar part for 40$. What I'm saying is go to Indy nearby have code read to tell u which sensor is bad and either tell them to replace for reasonable amount 175-200 or do it yourself. @ $560 walk. I know happy hour over on east coast, but.... U get it

getting the ims / rms done for $2299 out of the door from their best tech, one whom I feel very comfortable with. just trying to see how i can ask them to bring the price down on the aos and sensor... they were really nice when they took the car in, let me take an '13 boxster s convertible as a loaner. just want to ask without offending them...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh yeah.. and my indie told me 3 out of 4 were out and to replace all four would be $1300... the dealership only stated that one needed to be replaced

Funny, when Indy say replace all 4 they ar right.... And wrong. $ aside sure replace everything. On 12 yr old car your choice. Where u located? Maybe another rlister can recommend a shop. Engine doesn't come out for this work either.

Jambalaya... Man I wish I knew Indy up there but I'm Miami boy.

POST 14Original post

$11,100 is that a typo or what. No way in the memory of man should you be paying that amount for Preventative Maintenance. I am shell shocked here. What prompted you to go for IMS/RMS, AOS and 02 sensor/ What is the mileage and year of the car? How long have you had it? More details please. Until you respond I need a wall.

Sweet car -- agree with Hardback except as to basing any of the decision on the age of the car. You have a jewel and are doing the right thing to have it taken care of, accordingly. Find an indy whom you really trust and go from there. The dealer may be terrific, as well, and for now might be a good bet for you. Perhaps you can negotiate the price down a bit?

POST 20Original post

How much of the $560 is part and how much is labour?

POST 21Original post

Ok. My blood pressure can return to normal. Just about soiled my pants when I saw $11k for the bearing job. TC

Where in La? I'm in Shreveport and have two Indy recommendations.

POST 23Original post

First , you're at a dealer so not surprising. Second, do they already have the transmission off and other parts taken apart already? If they started the work, you're probably at their mercy if you wanna get the AOS done which would be the best time. The difference in the cost of AOS(close to $400), not sure if you can find an Indy to do it for cheaper than that so it could be a wash. The o2, you can always do yourself later or by any generic muffler shop. I guess you got your first lesson to not bring these cars to a dealer if you don't have to.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 10819525

Simply state that the additional work is priced extremely high given that the trans is already out making the AOS replacement quite simple. I have been dedicated to my dealer, which for me is about to change, however when I had the LNE IMSB installed they originally invoiced me an additional $460.00 labor to install a new clutch pack. All I had to do was tell the service writer that it didn't make sense because it was the same labor steps to put my old clutch back in as it was to unbox and install the new clutch. The $460.00 went away immediately and the service writer was very apologetic and quite red in the face. I also had my AOS replaced and I think the labor was for 1/2 hour, I provided my own new AOS which cost me $120.00. Remember that they are in business to make money, and as much as they can get away with. Some folks prescribe to the notion that if you own a Porsche that you have more dollars than sense. You have the right to question them and to show that you are educated and you can do so in a polite manner.

POST 25Original post

while they are in there and the trans is out, how about a new lightweight flywheel with a sport clutch and pressure plate?

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10819941

3 hours labor; they said it would normally be 6... Just talked to them and the ims rms and aos would be $2899 out the door.

POST 28Original post

What exactly is the dealer replacing on the IMS portion? Is it just the IMS flange to resolve any leaks or are they actually putting in a new LNE retrofit bearing? It is often easy to misunderstand exactly what is being done especially if you are fairly new to Porsches when it comes to the IMS. I've read countless times when owners thought they were getting the IMS bearing replaced by the dealer when in fact it was merely just the IMS Flange that had been replaced. Edit: Make sure to ask them for the old IMS bearing, RMS, AOS back. Also don't be surprised if the RMS leaks on you again so make sure you are clear on their warranty policies regarding parts and labor.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10820153

hi. thanks for your concern. they are replacing the bearing. they did say though that they would have to ship it back to ln due to their strict regulations??? as far as the rms warranty i will definitely check on that! thanks!

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 10820368

Correct, technically you're suppose to return your old bearing for the warranty on the LN bearing to be valid.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 10820144

that price (while still a litle bit high) is more in line with what it should cost. I paid $2600 for IMS/AOS (RMS was done under warranty) and replacing the tri connect coolant hose near the AOS (that can be brittle after a decade of heat cycles), and a gallon of coolant. (The tri connection is plastic, not rubber). This was done by a very reputable Indy in SE Pennsylvania. Just a reference point.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 10820651

k thanks; that helps knowing it's within range

POST 33Original post

I priced the clutch, IMS, and AOS at the dealer. They took the book price for the IMS and added the book price for the clutch, then the book price for the AOS. They did not take into account that to get the IMS all the labor for the AOS and clutch is done. I had an indy do it. Just added parts for AOS and would have just added parts for clutch if needed (which it did not). I would try to negotiate with them. My dealer would not, but maybe you may have some luck.

POST 34Original post
