Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a light track morning (4 3-lap stints at 8/10ths on a 1.4 mile track), I was driving back to the city on the highway @ 65 mph. I slowed down to pass a slower vehicle, and when I went to select 3rd, the shifter-feel turned to mush. This was also the case for 1st and 5th. 2, 4, and 6, still felt fine. I limped home in 4th for about 30 minutes till I got back to the city. On the outskirts, the shifter was still mush, but when I was within the city's stop'n'go traffic, the I got back 1, 3, and 5. It's still feels a little odd, but I got it home. Any idea what might have happened? Any suggestions on my next steps. I know zip about transmissions. Thanks, Joe

POST 2Original post

Check the two shifter cable linkage attachments on the gearbox for a tight connection. They have been known to come loose. Also at the base of the shifter. Could be a binding shifter cable. My thoughts....

POST 3Original post

+1 on shifter bracket slip. You might want to wire tie the cable(s) into the "C" shaped holder. See aqua arrows in pic #3 http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...TRANS-Drop.htm

POST 4Original post

+1 on the safety wire of the cables. I had the exact same problem at Watkins Glen, right after the IMS was replaced. Took it back to the shop where the work was done and the cables have been safety tied. I don't even give it any thought anymore.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's encouraging... will try to find time this weekend to have a look. Thx for the feedback.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Finally got under it and took a look. Broken clips holding the shifter cable. Wire-tied the cables into place as a patch till the next time I have to visit the area. Put Redline MT90 in the transmission while I was there too. Running like a champ again... for a couple weeks before it has to go into storage. Thanks for the assistance with troubleshooting.
