Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Mine has 60,000 miles and a salvage title, it's very clean everywhere with some respray done on one quarter panel only and there was no Carfax history.
Leading evidence: 'Clean everywhere' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean everywhere' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got this 99 Carrera last week, already put 900 miles on it! First day I had the car it got the CCW wheels, second day it got a set of H&R Sport springs. I builld hot rods for a living, so this is not my first rodeo. My impressions thus far are that it handles well and that the gearing is nearly perfect (it's a six speed manual). It's so easy to go fast around corners compared to what I'm used to (think beam axles front and rear...). The brakes are great as well. Most of all I am amazed at how cheap this car was, best deal out there by far right now. Mine has 60,000 miles and a salvage title, it's very clean everywhere with some respray done on one quarter panel only and there was no Carfax history. I paid less than one sixth of the original sticker price, I mean seriously this car is in the same price range as a Honda minivan with 100,00 plus miles.
Future plans call for some more power, maybe a single turbo? I wonder how hard it is to tune one of these things? It's super easy to make 525 rwhp plus with an LS V8 and a little boost, I'll bet this motor would wake up really nicely on about 10 pounds.

You'll want to boost carefully - otherwise you'll get some extra ventilation holes in the block. The flat 6 isn't quite as tolerant as an LS...things you'd do to an F-body, like a 100 dry shot, may not be such a great idea for the M96. That said, have fun. When you can buy a salvage car for what you paid, buying a second for a spare motor ain't bad.
Do some googling for LS swaps for the 996. They are out there, including at least one on this forum, and might be something you're interested in... it might end up being the cheapest way to make ridiculous power.
