I cleaned the motor the other day and it seems to be more sluggish now or that's just my imagination.

I had one installed about two years ago on my Seal Grey '01 cab.

I have cleared the headlights, replaced the front wheelwell liners(one had a piece missing and i cracked the other one), cleaned out the front radiators, added a single din alpine and replaced the air filter.

The po even replaced the battery when he found out from the ppi that it was 4 years old

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought i had to release the top like the boxster and had to get out the book and then decided to just hold down the button and it worked.
I loved my o2 boxster-s but always wanted a 911. I have been on and off since i sold the boxster about buying another Porsche.
I looked at a couple that didn't really look too good or were too plain.
I picked up this '02 carrera and had it delivered Sunday am.
It looks to have the projector or xenon instead of the halogens. It has the bbs two piece sport classic wheels. They look great but are a pain int he *** to clean. They were also refinished so i get to keep them clean. The front pads/rotors/sensors were replaced but the rears are about 50%.
The clutch was replaced last year and has about 1500 miles on it along with the water pump AND the LN IMS.
I knew it had an ims update, but i wasn't sure if it was the LN update.
The PO had spent over 6k last year in updates and needed to sell it. He also purchased a windscreen, windshield sun screen, and a sweet car cover.
The headlights are a little yellow but i can use the 3m headlight system that i have used on a couple cars.
There are no dents or dings from what i was told.
The po even replaced the battery when he found out from the ppi that it was 4 years old
The front tires are 9 years old and will be replaced before i drive it. The rears are 40-50% and i'll probably replace them at the same timw. They are pilots and i like the sumitomos or dws tires so i'll probably buy those.
The top is original but is still in decent shape but will need to be replaced in a couple years.
The interior is spotless minus a cleaning from the vacuum.
The ppi only showed a minute weeping on the power steering pump.
I would also like to replace the head unit with an Alpine of some sort. Maybe something with a nav screen.
The PO was a pleasure to deal with and i can't wait to get some clean roads. The car is filthy right now and it's too cold to wash, but i'll try and get it done after work this week. I might hook up the hose to the hot water.
And here are the manditory pics. Yes, i know, it's filthy. She wimpers to me every time i walk by.
This is a clean pic from the PO
LOL! I thought the same, but I like it! It's sort of tawdry in a good way
grats on the new ride! you got the absolute best year and color... shame about the roof
Sounds like a decent Porsche, congrats. Even a warm bucket of water will get most of it clean. Love those wheels. Nice to see you aren't afraid to drive your new 911 in the winter.
Congrats on the purchase
It looks like you got a good one. After you redo the headlights I would consider putting some
Lamin-X Headlight Protective Film
on to help protect against road debris.
Thanks all. After washing the car it really allowed me to see what to concentrate on. The headlights definitely need to be cleaned. I wonder if it might be best to remove them in order to not mess up any of the paint.
The driver mirror is a bit loose, hopefully it's just a loose connection on the door.
The top will definitely need to be replaced in a year or two as it is coming apart at the seams. But, i knew that coming into this. I thought i had to release the top like the boxster and had to get out the book and then decided to just hold down the button and it worked.
btw, how much does a new top cost? I was told about 2k.
Luckily, the roads are not nice right now and i have a month to play with this car.
Here are some cleaner pics. I felt so bad that i left her like that in the garage.
Very nice, definitely HID headlights, you got the wind deflector too, that's $200+ you don't need to spend.
The issue with the soft top is likely the car was driven year round? Weather elements damage the fabric the more it is exposed to the UV rays. The car looks to be in really good cosmetic condition otherwise, modded with the clear side signal lights too.
I also like the quad exhaust tips, still not exactly sure which model came with that from the factory, thought it was only the C4? I bought an aftermarket set last year and like them better than the OEM ones.
The shop that did the ppi said it was gembella. The top is in great shape when closed. But, when you open it and look at the piping that covers the cables on the side, the age of the top is apparent. I have to guide the cables into the grooves to ensure it sits in correctly. I would assume that can't be repaired.
I have the exact same car. Mine, however, is getting some engine work done at the moment after suffering a timing chain failure on the driverside. Not sure if it was caused by IMS/B or not yet. 54k mi on the clock.

This image brought to you by the good people at Miller.
I like the exhaust tips. Are those Gemballa or something else. I'd like some advise on what tips would fit my car. 2002 Carerra Cab
I'll have to crawl under there when i have some time and look for you.
jml, i would assume that is your place since the beer is posing for the photo op.
Cool. Let me know what you find out on the tips. I like the double circle style.
Also did the poor man's PSE mod while I had the engine out. Really looking forward to the sound. Everyone seems very happy with the results.
IMG_1017 sm.jpg
Yup. That's my garage.
Which year is your engine? More specifically is it the 3.6 or the 3.4?
Also was the picture taken with just tack welds before the full weld? Otherwise it is one very neat and almost invisible welding job!!
Check the goodies on this page, I like to help other people spend their money, you are welcome!

I was lucky to get a set for my 2000 as they are no longer being made/sold by Vertex Auto.
So far so good. I have cleared the headlights, replaced the front wheelwell liners(one had a piece missing and i cracked the other one), cleaned out the front radiators, added a single din alpine and replaced the air filter.
I dropped the car off today to have a brandy new GAHH top installed. The original was still on the car and the top was separating from the cables.
I should have it back at the end of next week. I dropped it off early because of my work schedule.
I have Sumitomo htrzIII tires on order. Yeah, i know, they're not porsche approved. But, i have used these before and i'm not going to track the car and was satisfied with the previous set.
I have to change the oil but have the supplies to do so.
My project for next year will be to add an amplifier, subs and new speakers next year. The stock stereo is pathetic, very.
I might even install a dimming mirror with the homelink at some point too.
As long as the aos doesn't give me any problems this year, i'll replace that next winter so i can work on it a little at a time.
anything else i am missing?
Congrats, I picked up a very similar car today, had the ppi this morning and I'm having them do the IMS LN upgrade...I can't wait to get it home Friday! I tried to upload a pic here but I guess I can't do that. It's a 2000 C2 Cab seal gray with savanna beige interior.
I think you'll be happy with the GAHH. I had one installed about two years ago on my Seal Grey '01 cab. It's very nice material and very well made.
Too bad I don't live in Camp Hill anymore, it would be nice to get our cars together for a beer and a race!
Mick
Thanks, i got the new top on, new tires, wheelwell liners and a new alpine single din.
Next year i work on a stereo.
Once we finally get a nice day, i'll take much better pics.
Welcome!
Nice to see someone so enthusiastic about their car. I had a silver 996 Cab for 7 years and loved it. I also have a '99 Boxster that's my wife's fair weather toy.
You'll love the 996 coming from the Boxster. Not selling the Boxster short in any way, just nice to have a little storage area in the cabin, more leg and head room too. And the best is the 911 rear weight biased handling.
thanks all. I wasn't sure if i would like this more than the boxster but i really do. I liked the sound of the boxster once it went above 3500rpm but i'm really enjoying the hell out of this car.
You are right about the space, we can fit a lot more in here behind the seats. This seems to be a bit more solid car but i still would possibly buy another boxster.
I was thinking of adding a sub and amp but i don't really know if i want to do that. I like hearing the motor and exhaust.
I think i might have to replace the plugs soon, it seems a little sluggish, but that could be the drive by wire. I would assume the coil packs will be fine for now. It still goes like you stuck a lit firecracker in its ***.
I cleaned the motor the other day and it seems to be more sluggish now or that's just my imagination. There aren't any codes but i'll keep an eye on it. I don't know when the plugs were last changed and were coming up on 90k.
I bought this car to drive, though it might not get driven much in the rain and there's a very small chance it'll get driven in the snow.
My thoughts are to drive this thing for as long as i can and get another later down the road. I think mrs dallison28 would like to have this one.
I notice how particular this car is with oil levels.
I changed the oil the other day and was adding 1/2 qt at a time and i must have added 1/4 too much, but didn't think much about it since there are 9+ in there.
I took it for a ride and opened it up on a 12-15% and i got a good amount of smoke out of it going up the hill at full throttle. It was warmed up nicely but i think that little bit that it was over may have burned off and gave me the smoke.
The other time i had smoke was when i jacked up the right side of the car pretty high for whatever reason and then had smoke on start up a couple times and then it went away.
It's as if some oil in each instance spilled like when you lean a cup over and the fluid falls out, but i could be wrong.
This car is fun, as if i had to tell you guys. I'm driving it like i stole it and that's what it's for.
I just need to get the ***** to drive it in the rain, except for those damn wheels that are so hard to clean.
I changed the oil the other week and i had it filled to the top of the upper part of the dipstick. When i floored it going up a steep hill, it smoked pretty good. Once i drained a half a quart or so, it stopped.
But i may have jinxed the wife and i ..........................
Enjoyed the pictures. I laughed when I saw the one with the top partially deployed. After I got my car, I video taped the opening and closing - there are lots of things going on back there in transition.
Arni
you got that right, it's a work of art.
So far so good. This car has been kind to us. we always enjoyed taking the boxster to the ice cream shop and missed that until we got this car. We sit in the parking lot with the top down in the evening enjoying our ice cream.
It doesn't have a ton of power but it does get to 140 in less than a 1/2 mile.
We took it to vermont in July and it was good and bad. The bad was that the roads were a bit more rough than i had remembered, and we had to really plan out what to take and bring back.
The good was that we got to drive around with the top down most of the time. The seats were so much more comfortable than the tsx. And i stress much more. My butt normally hurts for a day after the ride up, but not this time.
We managed good mileage that was around 24-27, Even with Mrs. Dallison's lead foot.
I have some things that i need to do this winter with the maintenance, but nothing major.
Everyone should own a fun car at least once in their lives, and we're enjoying this.
I still don't like the wheels and want to get some my02's. These are real hard to clean and we'll have to see where i can pick up a new set.
Good luck getting the new wheels -- a set will turn up at some point. The ones you do have look great on your car (one of my favorite styles along with the Sport Classic, neither being easy to clean, however).
