Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also use a ScanGauge which gives me regular trip computer information, MPG, battery voltage, miles to empty and many other OBDII metrics directly accessible.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Amazon is running a goldbox on ODB II scanners. Looks promising, 67% off apparently. One can always use a code scanner, those seem to be rated pretty high:

I'm amazed anyone still buys OBDII readers like that when you can get a bluetooth OBDII for $13 and turn your android into a full-featured analysis tool with free software. (wifi version is $20 if you have an iphone)

I have one and use it all the time. Might pick up more so I can keep one in every car. For $13, why not?
Yes but not everyone can use a smart phone nor is it always handy in a garage. I use the BT ODB II adapter as well (that's only for Android though, iPhone/iPad will need this one:

).
Having both, they both have their use, sometimes the larger scanner is easier to use and has more manufacturer codes.

Yes, you sure can. There are several packages that integrate it right on your phone, using your phone's camera and accelerometer. I usually use OBDII and GPS with ALapRecord. Gives the below output immediately so that I can review the data between runs, as well as create log files you can crunch at your leisure later.

It's 2013. Everyone
does
have a smart phone. Usually with them all the time, too; if not in-pocket, then at least not very far away. Even if you don't, you can get one for about what one of those standalone OBDII readers costs.
Sometimes it's nice just to plug the damn thing in and read the codes without messing with the phone, the app, the BT transmitter, etc. I love my Actron code scanner, even though it's not nearly as wow-ish as my bluetooth setup...
