Also my shifter feels like it's broken lol even though it's solid as a rock and I know it's installed properly.

The only other one I might consider would be the 997 GT3 shifter as it uses metal bushings where the stock has plastic.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 C4S and will use this as a DD (85% street) and track days (15%). What OEM SSK would work best for my 911? 996 GT3 ssk, 997 ssk, cup car cables, etc? Please help. Thank you in advance!!

No... Just 20 or 30 Thousand Dollars

Thanks Zookie. I was planning on spending $300-$500 on this mod. Does anyone have anything else to contribute. Danke.

POST 6Original post

yes a dog box is going to be his best option.... everyone is so sarcastic on here..... most of my track cars run just oem shifters since i hate knotchiness, i do enjoy the feel of a shorter throw but its not worth the misshifts. but you cant go wrong with a b&m ssk. hopefully someone can chime in about the 997 oem shifter.

POST 9Original post

Here is a B&M like new that a friend is selling. Even comes with the housing (normally you use your own housing) https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=32702

POST 10Original post

The 997 shifter is as smooth as butter and the throw is reduced by 15%, so it's a noticeable difference. I myself have the agency power SSK, which reduces the throw by a whopping 35%, but I fully agree with Kris79, I HATE the notchiness and I hate to admit it but if you get a bit lazy with the shifter it's easy to mis shift and/or not fully engage. Also my shifter feels like it's broken lol even though it's solid as a rock and I know it's installed properly. Overall, reducing the throw by too much is not necessarily a good thing as most aftermarket SSKs aren't as smooth as oem. I'm probably going to switch to oem 997 for a better and more accurate shifting experience.

I actually went from stock to B&M to 997 to 997 ssk. I will be adding a B&M transmounted adapter for further reduction in conjunction with the 997 ssk. All it took was a few missed shifts and the constant additional shift effort for me to get rid of my B&M. Wanted something short but refined which the B&M didn't offer, for me at least.

What he said. I too am ditching the B&M for a 997 shifter this weekend.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I figured the OEM 997 SSK would be the way to go. I have read that the cup cables is an additional component that will help this mod. How does that help, does it just beef it up?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 9578170

Try the OEM 997 ssk first and see how you like it. Cup Cables are pretty expensive and not sure if you might or might not notice anything unless you got lots of money and time...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you. Next question, where to buy a new OEM 997 SSK for the best price. Here are the mods i am doing in the next few weeks for the new track in Mason County, WA called "The Ridge" Recaro PP in black leather Power Roll Bar Shroth harness 997 SSk Track only wheels & tires Willwood hidden trailer hitch

POST 17Original post

$210 at ECS part # 99742401000 Edit; Oops, that part # and price is for the standard 997 shifter which is 15% quicker than the standard 996

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9578772

Thanks. What is the web address for ECS? Ill see what the 997 SSK is.

POST 19Original post

Swapped out my B&M for a 997 SSK. It it less notchy during shifts. Liked the B&M over the stock, and like the 997 SSK over the B&M, however, it is not as drastic a change as stock to B&M. I bought mine from Sunset Imports in Oregon, it was four twenty something plus shipping. Suncoast in FL was about the same price, but I buy a lot from Sunset so I stuck with them. Both places typically have the best prices for OEM parts.

POST 21Original post

I picked up a 997 shifter last year and throws are shorter and tighter than the stock 996 shifter. A bit notchy when cold but that goes away in 5-10 min. Given my experience with the stock 997 shifter, I think the SSK might be a bit much. The only other one I might consider would be the 997 GT3 shifter as it uses metal bushings where the stock has plastic. Suncoast 997 shifter

+ 1 for the OEM 997 shifter in a 996. I just swapped mine out and Goldilocks would approve.

POST 24Original post

Putting my 997.2 GT3 Shifter in tonight. Factory shifter even with solid engine mounts makes me sad in the pants.
