Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace ignition switch (thinking it was due anyway)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'connection somewhere, or maybe an immobilizer issue' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check 12v in the engine bay at the jump points' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It is probably a bad connection somewhere, or maybe an immobilizer issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Symptoms:
Intermittent no crank, and no oil level sensor display.
I have replaced the Ignition Switch (thinking it was due anyway)
I have also verified that it isn't the clutch switch by bypassing. (though that would not have caused the lack of oil level display)
Next would be the Ignition relay, but looking for input incase anyone else has found the same issue.. I wan't able to find any threads that had no crank and no oil level at the same time.
(though one thread did imply that a DME issue with the immobilizer could cause the problem)
This is intermittent, and of course I want to nail it down so the car doesn't leave me stranded. So far the few times it has done this, I have kept trying it until it finally started.
It can't be the starter, or starter relay , because again, that would not explain why the oil level doesn't display when this happens. (besides, the starter is nearly new)
Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.
You are going to have to start at the beginning. Battery good? Then power distribution panel. Then fuses and secondary relay panels. Then checking for 12V in the engine bay at the jump points.
Thank you for the reply.
I can rule out the battery. it is less than a year old, and 99% of the time, the car starts. It turns over fast and catches within the first 1/2 second. No problems with slow cranking, so no voltage issues.
It can't be a fuse. A fuse fails completely. This is a rare intermittent issue.
I put my multimeter in the car, and will try and nail it down the next time it does this.
It is probably a bad connection somewhere, or maybe an immobilizer issue.
Seems one thing the oil level and starter have in common is the X2/3 connector.
Might be worth a look. Pretty sure it is located
in left rear footwell. Possibly some sort of corrosion.
Relay 86s is common to Immobilizer and also part of Instrument Cluster on an Orange wire...
Relay 86s sends power through part of Ignition Switch to fuse E1 then to junction then to Immobilizer and part of Instrument Cluster..
Relay 86s is located in Relay Support #1position #17
Fuse E1 is located in last/bottom row of main fuse panel at drivers footwell...first fuse
Worth checking out when the problem reoccurs......
does it always spin over fast whether hot or cold? Because a failing battery + a hot starter acts like what your describing, the ECU power drops too low and things go sideways.
I've had batteries last years and weeks. Brand matters.. Typically the engine will crank slower when hot, much slower if 1 cel has calcified up.
