OP of this thread replaced his motor mounts at the same time he installed a LWFW, and I suspect that's why he saw such a drastic increase in vibration.
Leading evidence: 'Install lwfw, and i suspect' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'semi-solid mounts will be perfect' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install lwfw, and i suspect' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I just installed RSS mounts in my otherwise stock 996 lastnight.

Also with almost 100000 miles (actually believe it or not I am sitting at 96996!), I changed the water pump (being proactive), plugs, coil packs, thermostat, and changed the oil/filter.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Suggestion
If you want top performance with stiffer mounts you will need to change the engine management system to compensate because stiffer mount will trip the knock sensor and retard your timing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

BTW, there are a couple of OLD posts that are 996-specific, one of which reported a significant amount of additional vibration transmitted through the mounts. OP of this thread replaced his motor mounts at the same time he installed a LWFW, and I suspect that's why he saw such a drastic increase in vibration. I ran solid mounts in my Boxster and was happy with the results, so I suspect the semi-solid mounts will be perfect for me.
I installed them on my 02 C2 and did notice a tiny, barely perceptible vibration. After a few days I no longer noticed it. Very happy with them - no regrets or complaints.
Definitely interested in your feedback... Motor mounts are likely in the near future for me. I've even considered solid motor mounts for my car, primarily street.
While some will definitely say solid's are for track only, some reviews claim they are quite usable on the street. Not giving noticeably harsher vibrations and offering exquisite shifting improvements... particularly with the problem of 3rd being a bit finicky in high G situations. I'll admit half the price of the Wevo's is appealing as well.
those?

I am surprised that they do not list it for 996. I have the torque solution semi solid mounts on mine, not super happy with them
I have custom poly mounts with durometer rating similar to the Wevos. I don't notice really any NVH at all in most situations. The only time there is just a slight difference is when it's cold(under 40deg F) and on certain improperly paved highways. But considering I have GT3 coilovers with spherical strut mounts, dog bones, gt3 control arms, NVH is the least of my worries.
Plenty of threads on upgrading mounts... I've been on RS mounts for a few years. If you don't track your car Id keep the stockers but if your car sees track time this mod is worthwhile. The motor moves around a lot under braking, cornering and acceleration. This unsettles the car when you are really pushing it. The semi-solid mounts solve this problem and give the entire car a more solid feel. Hard to explain... You will feel the stiffness when you drive over expansion joints. Another benefit is it improves shifting feel since the engine mounts don't flex anymore. Id look at the RSS mounts...
I have the Wevo SS mounts in my race car. Very nice handling and shifting improvement. Can't tell you about NVH due to straight pipe center exhaust, and spherical joint suspension.

I just installed RSS mounts in my otherwise stock 996 lastnight. So far they feel fantastic with only the slightest increase in vibration. So far I definitely recommend even for a car that is DD.
If you want top performance with stiffer mounts you will need to change the engine management system to compensate because stiffer mount will trip the knock sensor and retard your timing. IIRC, about 12hp loss. My source of info asked to remain anonymous. But he is a very prominent engine builder. I have also experienced this first hand with my 928 and the "upgrade" to solid Ford motor mounts.
But niether Wevo nor GT3 RS are solid so why would they trigger a knock sensor on a 996?
As a matter of fact right off RSS website:
http://rss.rpmware.com/rss/rss_perfo.../i-533242.aspx
"This upgrade will NOT adversely effect ride quality or cause knock sensor issues commonly associated with solid engine mounts."
Only way to really know is to datalog this for the various engine mounts out there. I don't necessarily think one can just make a general statement like this to apply to all.
Wouldn't that throw off a CEL? I'm not seeing any CEL's and power "feels" up, not down. Maybe if they were solid, like MiamiC70 mentioned, but not with semi-solid.
I guess I'll find out soon enough. Neither of the previous 2 cars I've installed solid mounts into, one of which was M96 powered, had any issues, so I'm hoping the same is true with the 996...
Koenigsegg uses the engine case as a structural member - using no damping at all between the motor and the chassis - but perhaps their engine management accounts for this lack of shock absorption...
5CHN3LL let us know you should be fine as the WEVO are simi-solid along the lines of GT3RS not compleately solid. I too am looking to go in that direction so I am going to be following this threat.
Just checking in on my impressions of Wevo SS mounts.
Today is the 3rd day with them and I can say that the difference is noticeable in how the shifter feels
going from gear to gear. It is almost as if the gates were slotted and and the end of travel on each shift it feels more solid.
I personally cannot feel any more vibration at idle even though I have a fairly stiff suspension.
No regrets and quite happy!
Also with almost 100000 miles (actually believe it or not I am sitting at 96996!), I changed the water pump (being proactive), plugs, coil packs, thermostat, and changed the oil/filter.
Runs great!
Nice, thanks for the update. My install has been temporarily delayed as I get the insurance adjuster out and get the car into the body shop to repair the rear bumper (t00l backed into it in the parking lot @ work...).
I've been running the RSS mounts since the beginning of the year and am very happy with the results. Definite improvement in handling that is noticeable on the street.
There is also more engine noise transmitted to the cabin but I personally think that it is an improvement especially when driving hard. Although it also means that I am more aware of engine vibrations (ie there is one at ~3K RPM) that weren't noticeable before.
I'm happy with the upgrade and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys the sound of the flat-6 :-)
