Anyone know a good PDR person in North NJ? My son's brake lever nearly poked a hole in the bottom of my rear deck (right under the C in Carrera) when it fell when my wife hit it with a garbage can. I of course just clayed and waxed the car the weekend before!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So thats the story she told you, huh? Should have had a "nanny cam" for your 996.
Yeah, my kids have never dinged my cars. My wife throws a garbage can into the garage, and knocks down my son's mountain bike (which shouldn't have been on top of my car anyway). I told her if anything happens to the car, I'll spare NO $$ fixing it! Didn't work as a preventitive warning though.
I would post this in the Concours section. I think one of the sponsors is a detailer in your neck of the woods.
Gary Morini [phone removed]. He appears at NNJR concours events regularly.
Cool, I'll give Gary a call, thanks.
Hope he can remove the dent for you.
That piece is fiberglass, you're essentially SOL. I would bet the actual fiberglass is cracked under the paint.

It is? I should snap a photo and post it, to see my options. If it's fiberglass, can I fill it with a dab of glue or something? Then touch up paint?

It's not fiberglass. The spoiler is but the decklid is metal

Ah, back to plan A then!
Couple of years ago when I had a dent on my '86 carrera, there was this guy Manny in Kearny who fixed it for me. I also got a full detailing done on the car by him. When I was speaking to him, he did get a couple of calls from the Ferrari dealership (Edison) for some estimates - he works based off requests from multiple dealerships and indy shops. The guy has an SL-55 in one of his garages His number is [phone removed]. Worth a shot if you're unable to get hold of Gary.
Thanks. Do you go to Gary and/or Manny, or do they come to you?
Manny.. I went to his house (works in his garage), but I guess he might come to your place and work as well.
Here's what the damage looks like. Aside from the ding, the paint looks cracked.

Well ill be damned, i thought the whole decklid is fiberglass.
Gary 's coming over on Friday afternoon! He says it looks pretty bad, but he should be able to make it look much better. Not perfect though, the paint is cracked.

Nope, only on cars with Aerokit.

Good luck, hope it turns out fine. The metal on the newer cars is thinner compared to the old air-cooled ones. I had a pebble the size of a tennis ball fall on my 3.2's hood from 25-30 ft above making a bad dent, which turned out pretty ok after a long PDR session. I was told that if it were a 996 or newer, it would have fallen right through the hood!
Thanks, I think newer cars in general are made of tin foil! Guess my kids will never slide down the windshield onto the hood, like I did on my Dad's Ford Falcon!

I have done that on my dad's old cars as well. And in case the roof caves in, just push it back up from the inside But I'm scared to even place a can of milk on top of my car!
That's why I bought the plastic Shield that pops in to the underside of the frunk. If I were to ever slam down the lid and cause a dent from the inside (because is is so oddly shaped), I'd be beyond pissed.
Here is how it looks after PDR - seems the dent was too deep to get it back to being perfect. Either I leave it like this, or, get a body shop to fill and paint ($500 or more). iphone photo is a little off in color, but you can see the details...
while that doesn't look too good, that dent was very gnarly to begin with. Were you impressed with Gary? What was the price if you don't mind me asking (you can pm if you wish). Thanks.
Gary was awesome, tried his best, and didn't want to charge me because it wasn't up to his standards. I paid him for gas and his time anyway.
Ugh. That's bad luck. Looks crappy and you know it's going to bug the s*** out of you til you get it fixed properly. $500 isn't a total disaster.....these things happen
