Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks, I'll get that checked asap, and thanks for the rims details, the chrome is pealing at some area's so we are either going to get new rims or get these ones refinished.

Your tech would remove the serpentine belt under the air box and check each pulleys for friction resistance or play.

I was just about done my detail, and had the tail up to clean the inside of the tail, didn't put it down before taking pics.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I'm new to this forum, yet I'm an active user of other forums.
I've basically joined this forum for its great information and to get some parts. The car is not mine, but my father and I'll be posting/asking/requesting on his behalf, as he doesn't know how to work forums and all.
Either way, looking forward to all the great info and parts I may buy from here. Some stuff my father is currently looking for is a new set of headlights, his have the burned plastic from the bulbs and probably refinish the wheels as the "chrome" peeled off on the rear driver's side.
Does anyone have links to the full specs of the car? A website or something? I'm looking to get more specs on the rims he currently has, bolt pattern; alarm related stuff.
We are both new to the "Porsche" world, but not to the flat engine, as I've owned a Subaru since 2006, and love it.
Here's a quick picture of the car:
Also, I've been trying to contact some members for some parts they have, and I can't seem to be able to send a PM, is there a minimal post count to be reached before I can send if off?
Thanks,
JP
Welcome aboard.
I think there is a minim keep posting. A very good resource for technical info is also renntech.org.
make the year and location part of your sig. That way folks can help with dealers, independents, parts, local help, tips, etc.
You have to be a paying member to have a signature line (per fpb111's comment).
Welcome aboard, jproy. There a a "search" feature for the forum with advanced search criteria. Generally, look stuff up there before posting regarding specific topics, since that will get you the best info, in the quickest manner.
Thanks all for the information, it seems like it was a post count of "5" in order to send PM's to members.
As for the search option, I've used it many times already, and it's yielded pretty good results.
Alright, to update my "introduction post" I was tasked to get the car back into "mint" shape, I'm no pro, but I've practiced and I've got it pretty nailed down on how to polish and remove some scracthes, so I'll let the pictures talk by themselves! The car needed lots of love on the outside, lots of scratches and dings, but managed to remove most of them. I did IronX, claybar and then a 2-step polish, sealant than a wax, car now looks nice.
Here are some pictures:
Looks great.
I know how much work it is to do the exterior cleaning/polishing steps you just did as I recently did the same for a new Cayman. But the results are worth it!
Also, I really like the interior color. Do you know what the color is called?
We are from the Ottawa region
Yea it is lots of work, but well worth it in the end!
I was just about done my detail, and had the tail up to clean the inside of the tail, didn't put it down before taking pics.
It's a 2000!
It's been noted!
I'm wondering, did the 996 C2 come with "chrome" wheels? Or was it an option? Or was it done afterwards?
The car needs a bit of suspension work in the front, and it seems like there's a pulley noise at the front of the engine (near the rear of the car) I'm trying to nail that down, but we'll probably have to bring it to a specialist since I have no clue what it is, seems like it's coming near the alternator and to the right, near the other pulley (not sure what part that is yet).
Thanks,
JP
JP;
I have the same 17" wheels but non-chromed. The non-chromed version was standard for that 996 era, I believe. I use them as winter tire rims but have SportDesign wheels for summer as per my avatar. Yours look to me like they were chromed aftermarket.
Not sure of your 'kilomtrage' (mileage) but, the noise your hear in the back might be related to a pulley bearing or perhaps the water pump bearing. Check for leaks on the driver side under the engine. If so, get it fixed right away. Your tech would remove the serpentine belt under the air box and check each pulleys for friction resistance or play. I would start with the water pump pulley as you don't want it to break while driving if you can help it.
I have a 2000 as well and have similar noise in the front when the outside temp is hot. Kind of wooden ship cracking noise. Likely control arm bushings to be looked at.
Bonne chance!
Thanks, I'll get that checked asap, and thanks for the rims details, the chrome is pealing at some area's so we are either going to get new rims or get these ones refinished.
How can you tell if the car needs engine mounts? Just curious, as I have no clue how you detected that
Low as in suspension wise? What is this "easy fix"?
Thanks all for the great info!
JP
I think he means "low" as in the exhaust tips being situated too far below the car's body. It's a bit hard to tell in your pix, though. Below is what it should look like. However, I just got rid of the OEM tips a couple weeks ago, as part of a whole new exhaust system upgrade.
