I am facing the prospect of replacing convertible top on my 1999 996 as the plastic window started separating. Is this complicated to do? I got a quote from local upholstery person at $750 for replacing. So i would rather tackle this myself if possible. If you have done this yourself how many hours did it take you? I have not had a chance to look through porsche repair manual to see if there are instruction for this. Is there any mention in Bentley manual? For roof choices I found roofs on ebay for 360 instead of getting one from GAHH for $820. Is this a good option? According to the advert it fits 1999 2000 and 2001. I should think it could be done DIY if you have to take one off then you should have no problem putting the new one on (IF IT FITS). I can't find anything on YouTube showing how to do the job. You may have to take it into the Porsche place to have the top calibrated after you finish the job. ou may want to check out what this guy did further down the page. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...installed.html

Sorry to be negative, but there is no way you can DIY this. They take real experts to install. Amongst even the experienced top installers, very few can do a 911 top correctly. Get the GAHH top, save yourself a big headache and spend the $750. This is not a place to go cheap. Cheers, TomF

I had an Indy replace my plastic window...a new one was sewn in. This requires removing/re-installing the top. His labor time is 8-9 hours...can't be done much quicker than this. (FYI-he's the "go to" guy for local PCA members.) relinuca
