Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had already changed the fluid with OEM and put in a Gbox detent in hopes to prevent this, but I guess the car has other plans.
Leading evidence: 'Replace already' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust cables, figured maybe something was slightly off' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I did the short shifter I adjusted the cables, figured maybe something was slightly off.

I am going to adjust the shifter cables and change the fluid again with some Delvac, but I do not have high hopes that this will do much.

Replace engine and transmission mounts to reduce movement of the whole powertrain under braking.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, new member, long time lurker. I have a 2000 911 I took to the track for the first time over the weekend (first time in this car, not my first event) and quickly realized my second gear was not happy. It popped out on heavy braking a number of times per session. I had already changed the fluid with OEM and put in a Gbox detent in hopes to prevent this, but I guess the car has other plans. I am going to adjust the shifter cables and change the fluid again with some Delvac, but I do not have high hopes that this will do much.
Moving forward, is the 997 transmission a worthwhile swap? I had seen a thread on here regarding a couple people completing the swap, but nothing that was seriously documented. I do all the labor myself, and am trying to stay on some sort of a budget.. Just shopping around rebuilt 996 units are not cheap. The 997 unit should be a cheaper option, if I can find one.
Any input / ideas are appreciated. Thank you.
Replace engine and transmission mounts to reduce movement of the whole powertrain under braking. Adjusting cables won't be as effective imho and might affect shifting off-racetrack.
Certainly possible. Did you use the green plastic centering tool/bracket to center the gear stick?
RSS for engine mounts (read up on their triggering of knock sensors as posted by Jake raby, FSI)
Anything polyurethane even if just in the shape of inserts for the stock transmission mount.
Powerflex, Superflex and function first (=list Sponsor?) come to mind.
I did use the green centering tool, however, my shifter bushings were beyond gone, hence why I did the short shifter. It shifts well, though a little notchy going into 2, 4 and 6.
I have heard of false knock from the solid mounts, I will watch the video about the knock from Jake Raby. I assume my best option is Rein mounts and fill them with some sort of silcione to stiffen them up? I also see PRG engine mounts online for a reasonable price, but there is not much literature on how they are on 911s.
It will definitely help.
Add: check out REIN engine mounts. If you truly need a rebuild, gbox is a name that comes up often. Sure the guys will have many other suggestions.
If the trans pops out of gear on decel it's because the "doghouse" shaped teeth on the syncro ring are worn. There's no fix other than replacing the syncro ring(s). Usually 2nd gear has two or three syncro rings as it gets the most abuse.
I have heard the G-Box detente can help and possibly eliminate pop out if it's not too far gone. Isn't it supposed to help prevent off throttle deceleration pop out?
