I am not too keen on running wheels that have the "look" but, perhaps, not the structural integrity.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Guys: I have spent the summer looking for an inexpensive set of (black) wheels for back-up track wheels. It seems to me that 19" wheels are all over the FS ads, but now 18" that fit the 996...what gives???

POST 2Original post

I kept it simple and bought a used set of my stock Turbo Twist (18") wheels that I use for the track w/ Hoosiers. Not super light but they were affordable and they work great for my needs.

I've been noticing the same thing ... my car has 17's and I want to do an upgrade to 18's. Seems like there are 19" wheels for sale all over the place, but 18's are a lot harder to find.

POST 4Original post

I get the feeling that 18s outsell 19s on the forum, at least price-wise. Worse performance and more expensive tires make 19s a no go in my book.

POST 5Original post

There's a reason why 19's are for sale and 18's aren't. No, they aren't the new 18.

POST 6Original post

Larger diameter wheels are the latest craze even with Porsche now supplying 20s on their newer cars. I had 17s when I bought my Porsche, but put on 18s a couple of years ago. Truthfully, I liked the ride on the 17s, but love the look of the 18s. You should get plenty of feedback on the 19" wheels from fellow Rennlisters. Remember there is often a weight and price penalty with the larger wheels.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear ya'll. Not looking for the latest craze, just a decent set of 18's for the track, that are not outrageously expensive. It seems that with the 20's around, the 19's are the current size that are available for sale, in many colors, offsets, etc. I know that tires for 18's are also a bit less expensive and I am not looking to stuff the wheel wells. My fenders have been rolled to accommodate a wider tire....but 18's are my limit. Guess I'll keep looking.....thankx

POST 8Original post

Hey Scott.......yup stick with 18's. Have you checked craigslist or some of the used parts houses like Oklahoma Foreign? I also saw some fake GT3 style wheels at http://www.automotion.com/1999+porsc...r-porsche.html not sure if I would track them or not.

POST 9Original post

or look at these....$800 http://tucson.craigslist.org/pts/4039194280.html

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pete: Thankx! I am not too keen on running wheels that have the "look" but, perhaps, not the structural integrity. As you know track applications means high load forces and the cheap brands are not on my short list. I will look at the AZ wheels, but I was really hoping to something in the NY/PA/NJ/CT New England area....this way I could make a run and pick them up................the search continues.............

POST 11Original post

From a looks perspective, remember that anything with a lip will generally make the rim look smaller. Notice how all of the 18" Porsche 996 OEM wheels do not have a lip. There is a reason to this madness...
