Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'bearing' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bearing' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cv boots too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Now you might with the car in the air supported by its body lift points use a mechanic's stethoscope to listen to each hub as someone spins by hand the wheel/tire and see if you can hear any difference that might point you to the right wheel bearing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

my 2000 C4 has 130,000 miles on it. I am hearing a rotating noise at low speeds. goes away above say 15 mph. I am suspecting early onset of wheel bearing failure. sounds like the right front, though it is feint at this point in time.
thoughts?
Could be a wheel bearing. I had one get noisy in my 02 Boxster at around 90K miles. Rear wheel bearing. Even after new tires fitted and with the car as quiet as it could be it was a toss up as where the noise was coming from.
Giving the wheel a test for free play may not be of much help. It wasn't in my car's case. The shop manager reported all wheels felt the same.

Replacing both if only one needs it is an expensive option. At first I told the manager to just replace both rear bearings but he talked me out of due to the cost. And he said that the odds would be good the bearings would last a long time. (He was right. The original bearings are still ok -- 271K miles -- and so if the replacement with around 180K miles on it.) But it is between you and the shop if you want to throw in two new wheel bearings. IIRC the fronts are more expensive -- labor -- to replace than the rear ones. This was back in 04 but the cost for my Boxster was close to but under $500.
Check the CV boots too for any signs of a tear/split. One of these might have failed and let dirt into the CV bearing. The noise then is not a wheel bearing but a CV bearing.
Mine did the same. It was the bearing. They are presses in. Buy a bearing and take it and the hub to the local machine shop. I think they
