Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I just purchased a 2001 911. The vin number has 997 in it. I would have thought it would have had 996 in the vin. Am I wrong in my assumption ? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Will probably help to see more of the vin number.

POST 3Original post

The VIN number doesn't include Porsche model designations like 996 or 997. It's a coincidence.

POST 4Original post

Pop your VIN into the VIN decoder at the following site, and it will tell you what every digit means: http://www.renntech.org/images/vin_d...INDecoder.html The 12th digit in the VIN will tell the model designation.

POST 5Original post

I should go shopping for a 996 with 991 in the vin!

^This. I believe you will find that the 7th, 8th, and 12th digit of your VIN are indeed "9-9-6"

Most observant you are! Yep, I just checked. You are correct. I kept looking for patterns (other than as per the VIN decoder)... all I saw was a pattern telling me to bet big on the 4th horse in the 3rd race. It was wrong.

POST 8Original post

I ran my VIN and don't see any designation identifying my vehicle as a C4 as opposed to a C2

POST 9Original post

Mine has lottery numbers and Astrology letters in it.

POST 10Original post

For crying out loud - use your secret decoder ring! Boy oh boy....

POST 11Original post

Hmm, demons at Arizona DMV gave me the plate destinned for KrazyK...my car is now worth $20,000.00 more with this plate, right KrazyK? I couldn't stop laughing when I opened the letter with the plate.
