Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings all, I recently purchased a junkyard steering rack with inner tie rods. I'm about to swap out mine but noticed the inner tie rods are little floppy. Does anyone have experience with swapping out the rack and can provide feedback on how the inner tie rods should behave? Let me know if you need a pic or video. Yogi

POST 2Original post

New inner tie rod ends are stiff, actually hard to move by hand. If your old rack's inner tie rod ends are stiff I would transfer them to the new rack; if they are also floppy I'd get new ones. They are not particularly expensive and are very easy to replace with the rack out of the car.

Perfect thats what I needed to know! It wouldnt surprise me if the existing ones too are floppy. The rack makes a weird noise when I turn the wheel back and forth. Like popping and clicking.

POST 4Original post

The reman unit i just got has floppy arms. I dont think it really matters if it doent leak.

Really? Doesn't loose inner tie rods add to steering slop?

POST 6Original post

They dont have any slop or play. There is just not a lot of tension in the "ball joint" that retains the arm
