If I get more serious about it I'll do the "auto check" to see if it's sat for long periods.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm in CA. I saw a '99 996 Coupe in AZ for sale with ~27K miles. Two questions:
Are all 996s sold in the US built to CA emissions standards? If so they would have something like "built to CA emissions standards" on the emissions sticker.
At this mileage, (averages out to 1,300 miles/year) would there be concerns about the reliability of the car due to having driven so few miles? I've seen people who know a lot about this say they see many more IMS failures on low mileage cars so I'm taking that to heart. This one should have a dual row as long as the engine hasn't been replaced. If I get more serious about it I'll do the "auto check" to see if it's sat for long periods.
I searched for smog & garage queen but didn't find anything that answered my questions. The car is selling for around $18K.
1) No problem with smog. California used to charge an environmental impact fee for bringing in a non-CA vehicle, but this practice was ruled illegal years back. In fact, my '99 was originally a CO car. Caveat: If any of the emissions-affecting equipment - catalytic converters, intake, etc. - have been replaced with non-CARB-certified parts, you WILL get boned, so be sure it's stock.
2) The people who champion buying ragged-out cars may try to convince you that low miles are a bad thing. If you decide to take their advice, please forward the seller's info along to me.
$18K seems almost suspiciously low for anything that can be described as a "garage queen..."
It does seem a bit low. I'm rationalizing it by thinking it's a rich guy looking for a quick sale. Judging by the neighborhood, the house it's in front of and the way the ad is worded, it seems like a rich guy weekend play car and now he's tired of it. I don't know the history yet. It looks bone stock.
Yes, if I decide to make the trip to AZ (there are 2 that look interesting) I'm going to make sure they are OK with a PPI before I go. Logistics of that might be hard out of state but we'll see. I'm worried that the guy with the lower priced one might say "sorry, it's priced to sell, take it or leave it". I'll leave it.
That's my understanding. For peace of mind you could ask the seller to send you a pic of the emissions sticker.
This is the sticker on my California delivered '99 C2.
@SoCal911t Thanks for sending that. I'm in San Diego too. Looking at my first car in Vista tomorrow. I don't think it'll be what I want but it's close to me. There's another one in Elsinore I might look at this weekend as well.
