I use Swepco 201 in my '99C2 and 210 in my '90 Vanagon Multivan. This is what the gearbox rebuilders have been recommending for years. But then again technology in this area has advanced. I've always liked Amsoil products also. I think your going to get more info than you hoped for on this subject.

I used Porsche brand on my manual trans 996. I think there are possibly better fluids out there, but I think the Porsche brand is good - relabeled Mobil 1 if I�m not mistaken. My 99 C2 has the LSD diff, and since the manual trans shares the diff for lube, it�s important to make sure the fluid you choose is compatible with an LSD if you have one. Most are, but some are not. Some folks complain about 1st gear being tough to grab when it�s quite cold (freezing) outside, and that�s the case with my car. I have to come to a complete stop to get 1st gear during warmup at freezing temps. A fluid change did not help, it�s just the way it is.

I used Porsche gear lube....3 bottles. $145 Canadian for the 3 bottles. sound expensive? Jeep Wrangler was $50 a bottle, only took 2 bottles tho.
