When I bought the car they had 285s and they rubbed the body on hard turns, so I fitted the same spec 265s.

Can I simply change to 295/30/18 which are the recommended tire for these rim?

As others have said, changing tires around is just a band aid attempt to fix the underlying problem which is your wheels are the incorrect offsets for a narrow body 996.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I bought the car and a fellow PCA member pointed this out to me a couple weeks ago, but I have
265/35ZR-18
continental DWS sportcontacts on the rears, but unlike the fronts that look flat from the side view, these bulge or are rounded, do I have the wrong size on my rims?
I assume you have 10" wide wheels on the back, if so 265 is narrow & not ideal. If the wheel is chrome plated where the tire bead seats that makes it harder to maintain the seal. If their are air leaks you definetly have a problem.
When I bought the car they had 285s and they rubbed the body on hard turns, so I fitted the same spec 265s. Note that the previous 285s had the same bulge/look. So do I need to change to what? I’m actually not sure if they are 10” wide, I guess by getting the part number I could find out?
ok, I found this from my Indy when I took it in for it's first service
rear 996-362-142-00 and front 996-362-136-00
he said the rears are 11" - if so what tires should I eventually get? or am I screwed with mis-matched rims
when I search the part number for the rears online, it says these are for a 2001 Turbo, doesn't list any other models, is that right?
thanks botsy, just did a search for standard equipment for a 2001 turbo, which is where these hollow spoke 18 are from, and the fronts are 225 40 18 and the rears are 295 30 18. The question is, if I switch to these tires, would it work on my narrow body C2! Or am I gonna be in the market for new rims?
so what's the fix? Can I simply change to 295/30/18 which are the recommended tire for these rim? while they are wider, the sidewall is smaller, would these end up rubbing? just trying to figure out what I need to do. The 285's definitely rubbed, but I also believe they were 285 35's, versus 295 30's, which I believe they went with this as they are all seasons. The Conti DWS do not come in a 295 30, but only 295 35. Recommended for this as noted is 295 30.
thanks, I've been driving them for a year now, maybe 3000 miles on them, even took them on a track for 3 laps and then did a car clinic with a mini autocross and no issues, but I'd love to get the wider tires on, but not sure if the 295 30 18's would rub, but I'd have to switch to summer tires for the 30's, as all seasons are 35's. But I want to do that eventually anyway to get a set of summer and winter tires.
I can't be certain that 295/30R18 on wide body rims will fit, but I can tell you that diameter of 295/30R18 is 24.97 inches, while 265/35R18 is 25.30 inches. So the small difference
might
be sufficient to clear, but it will be very much dependent upon your suspension settings, and ride height in particular.
Why not get a set of NB wheels? Id hate to spend the money on new tires only to have them rub. Your WB wheels look like they stick out too much anyway. If you get 18x10, your 265 tires will be fine.
As others have said, changing tires around is just a band aid attempt to fix the underlying problem which is your wheels are the incorrect offsets for a narrow body 996. It's probably best to fix the underlying problem as you could easily spend more $ trying to find a goldilocks tire combo that doesn't rub, meanwhile the actual handling of the car could still be well-off the mark.
That wheel/tire combo would look perfect on a Nissan or a Honda - they love that s-t-r-e-c-h-e-d look... Get the proper 10-10.5" wheels with proper offsets and you'll be golden. If you want them to track a little wider get some spacers. You should be able to sell the Turbo Twists to reduce your overall $$ outlay... Good Luck
hhahaha... that gives me a great idea. I have some 11" in storage. You think I could get my Porsche to produce extreme camber like the ricers? Ah ya bruh!!!!
This tool is great for comparing wheel / tire setups. It will give you before and after effects of changing offset / tires / etc.

thanks guys, the car originally had 285 35 18s and those rubbed, that tiresize site is interesting
current 265 35 18 = 25.3 dia
old was 285 35 18 = 25.9 dia
the 295 30 18 that actually fit these rims are 25”, so even smaller than my current which don’t rub (I have standard/stock suspension ride height)
agree with others as well, I might be gambling by switching to these. So I’ll need to think about it, thanks all
