Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off let me say that I don't mean to upset anyone but, How close can an exhaust change get to making an 02 996 sound like a 995 (any vintage) I am not happy with the 996 engine sounds, it doesnt have that PORSCHE noise

POST 2Original post

What's a 995? The PSE is generally regarded as the best sounding 996 exhaust. Very aggresive tone.

POST 3Original post

Fantastic tone in fact. Do a search on Youtube. C.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry I was thinking '95-98..... 993 (what is a 995 anyway)

994 and 995 are the "lost" versions of the 911. Since the 996 was leaps and bounds better than the 993, they skipped 994 and 995 and jumped to 996. They just wanted to make sure all Porsche owners recognized that fact.

As compared to the air cooled cars? It will never sound like them no matter what you do to the exhaust. The 996 has a water jacket surrounding the cylinders, there is no fan to cool the engine and the 996 has thicker insulation than the 993. Its a different car...

I'm posting this over on the 993 boards right now.

Please don't. Soon there will be waves of them telling us about how their cars go "thunk" when they close the door, and how Jesus designed and built each one with his bare hands.

POST 9Original post

... and on top of that they will tell us that 996's aren't real Porsches anyway.

Try PSE It sounds better (IMO) than any Porsche exhaust that the 993 was offered with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jaDBhmGNC0

agreed. i actually think my car sounds best at half throttle at lower speeds in the 1-2 gears. at wot, the engine noise drowns it out , and inside, my intake howls at WOT 3rd gear upper RPMs. love it.
